Former Derby County, Wolves and Burnley defender Jason Shackell has pledged his future to Lincoln City, signing a one-year extension on his current deal.
He will now remain at Sincil Bank until the summer of 2020.
The experienced thirty-five-year-old has made thirty-four league appearances for the Imps scoring four goals in their march to the League Two title.
Promotion with Lincoln was the fourth of Shackell’s career.
The news came after Shackell received the recognition of his fellow professionals who voted him into the PFA Team of the Year along with fellow Imps Neal Eardley, Harry Toffolo and John Akinde.
Speaking via the club’s official website, Shackell was delighted to be staying in Lincoln another year and was enjoying being part of the clubs success; ‘It’s been so nice to get back onto the pitch and be part of a successful team again.’
‘It’s meant a lot to me, it’s been great. I just can’t thank everyone here enough for their hard work, and the fans have been absolutely incredible from day one since I got here.’
The influential central defender has often stood in as captain when Lee Frecklington has been out injured and has been a key figure for the Imps who will play in League One next season for the first time this century.
Lincoln fans will be delighted with this news.
Shackell has been a standout performer this season and formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Michael Bostwick.
His experience has also helped some of Lincoln’s younger players such as Harry Toffolo progress and improve.
He will be a great asset for the Imps in League One next season.
