Southend United went down to a disappointing home defeat to fellow strugglers AFC Wimbledon at the weekend leaving them deep in trouble at the wrong end of the table and infuriating many of their supporters.
Ex-Shrimper Joe Pigott netted in the sixty-seventh minute to lift the Dons off the bottom and move them to within three points of their hosts, who have now gone ten games without a win.
The Blues dreadful run of form has seen them slide down the table. They now sit just one place and one point above the relegation zone, and many of their supporters feel it is time for a managerial change with under-fire boss Chris Powell’s position coming under intense scrutiny.
The Blues Chairmen Ron Martin has since given Powell his full support. Speaking to the Southend Echo in the wake of Saturday’s loss, he not only backed his manager he also announced he would subsidise free coach travel to next Saturday’s game at Peterborough in an effort to unite the fans behind the struggling team.
It is an excellent gesture by Martin but judging by the reaction on Twitter after the match the patience of the fans is running thin. Powell needs to get a result soon. Otherwise, the chairman may have no option but to let him go. Here is a selection of their responses to the weekend’s result.

That’s gotta be it for the manager surely. So disappointing. We are heading down without change.

I’ve been going to Roots Hall for 40 odd years so I’ve seen some rubbish but that was right up there. Was like watching an Alvin Martin, Rob Newman or Alan Little team. I fear Peterborough away will be my last game because if Powell’s still in charge beyond that then I’m done.
