Fleetwood linked with swoop for Liverpool defender

Fleetwood Town are one of the players on the lookout after in emerged that Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis will be heading out on loan, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

The 19-year-old has represented England at Under 19 level and is ready to take the next step in his career; senior football. Lewis, who operates at left back, is unlikely to get that at Anfield and will most likely be sent out on loan next season.

That’s allegedly interested Joey Barton, although there’s bound to be a clamour for Lewis’s signature at League One level and maybe even in the Championship.

Lewis can also play in the left midfield role and has been a regular for their Under 23 side this season. He’s scored seven goals and provided one assists in his 25 outings at that level.

He’s also just been added to FIFA as part of the first team squad, a big step for a young player, although his rating is just 58.

That’s in line with many of the Fleetwood squad, but whether he actually winds up there or not is a different kettle of fish entirely.

Our View

Lewis is clearly a special talent and highly rated at Anfield, but is there a pathway to regular football there for him?

If not a loan move does seem sensible, but whether joining a former Everton and Man City player is a good move or not is another question.

he’d surely be more suited to a Wigan or Millwall in the Championship.
