Luton Town swipe Championship midfielder from under Charlton’s nose

Luton Town have bagged Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane, despite him turning down a move to Charlton earlier in the week.

He rejected a switch to the Valley as he didn’t want to drop into League One football, but has since found himself joining Nathan Jones at Kenilworth Road, in League One.

The 28-year old has been frozen out at Elland Road, he wasn’t even given a squad number this season and his days appear to be numbered. Despite that blow, he does still have three years remaining of a bumper four-year deal offered to him last summer.

He’ll certainly bring steel to the Luton midfield, as well as experience. He was part of the Bournemouth squad that battled from League One to the Premier League and although cast aside at Leeds, he’s a big signing for the Hatters.

O’Kane is a Republic of Ireland international and has also played for Torquay and Coleraine in his career.

Our View

He might have annoyed Lee Bowyer, one person you don’t want to annoy, but he’s now in League One and having to lump it.

He’ll be a big player for Luton though, he’s experienced and despite his Elland Road detractors, he suffered from being an average player in a really poor team last season.
