AFC Wimbledon snap up former Derby County man

AFC Wimbledon have reacted quickly to bring former Derby defender Kyron Stabana to the club.

The defender was one of four released by Derby’s Under-23 side in the summer, which was little surprise. He had a trial with Crystal Palace not long before the announcement was made.

The 20-year-old has now penned a deal with the League One side, thought to be for one season.

“Delighted to have signed for AFC Wimbledon,” Stabana posted on social media. “I can’t thank the club more for this opportunity.”

He made 15 appearances in the Premier League 2 Division 1 last season, but was unable to get a look in at first team level.

He’s known primarily as a right back, but can operate on either side of the defence and push on as a wing back.

For a young player to be released after coming so far in his career, it must be hard.

His real fight starts now, a first team chance at a Football league club is coming his way. His entire career depends on him having the right attitude and work rate over the coming months.
