Matt Kilgallon closes in on Bradford City exit

34-year old defender Matt Kilgallon is close to leaving Bradford City, as revealed by Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

His alleged destination is likely to surprise some, with pundits failing to agree on whether big-spending Salford City, Mansfield or Scunthorpe United is his likeliest destination. A move to Glanford Park would seem to be the favourite, given the arrival there of Stuart McCall in the last 24 hours.

Kilgallon could be classed as a veteran having enjoyed a stellar career eight clubs and 16 years. He’s not only represented Leeds, but also Sheffield United, Sunderland, Blackburn and Doncaster.

In his early career he was capped by England, form U18 to U21 level, but he never made the step up to the senior side.

Most of his career has ben played in the second tier, with just a couple of seasons in the Premier League with Sunderland. He’s yet to appear for the Bantams this season, despite winning Player of the Year last term.

Our View

Everyone we;’ve spoken to thinks he’s going to a different place. Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday seems unlikely as he’s surely beyond Championship football now, but nothing surprises us in this game.

Scunthorpe would seem a likely destination, but following Jason Shackell’s move to Lincoln City, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising for him to appear in League Two either.

Any move is likely to be concluded before Thursday morning.
