Stockport County have added experience to their ranks as they aim for promotion to the Championship with the signing of Jack Hunt.
The Hatters are in a promising position to gain their 3rd promotion in 5 years and are top of the table ahead of their Thursday night clash with Peterborough United. However, some key injuries have weakened their squad, particularly at the back, meaning Dave Challinor has opted to make a transfer move.
Hunt Heads To County
The 34-year-old has been bouncing around the EFL in recent seasons, having last represented Bristol Rovers last season as part of their unfortunate relegation from the 3rd tier. He has been a free agent since departing, and has recently been involved with training at Sheffield Wednesday.
Now, the Sheffield Star have revealed that Hunt has found a new home at Edgeley Park, putting him in a great position to earn his 3rd promotion from League One in his career. Most recently, he did so with the Owls through the playoffs, repeating the feat he made over a decade earlier with Huddersfield Town.
County have seen some important defensive assets sidelined, including Brad Hills and Tayo Edun as well as summer signing Arttu Hoskonen. It has left the club with just 3 senior defenders in Joseph Olowu, Ethan Pye and Callum Connolly.

What Can Hunt Bring To The Table?
With 2 promotions from this division under his belt, Hunt can be a strong leadership figure in getting these players over the line, some of whom were in the National League not too long ago. Alongside Ollie Norwood and long-serving club legent Ben Hinchliffe, Challinor has now got a few veteran figures to guide what is a fairly young squad.
Aside from the need for bodies at a time when numbers are low, Hunt should be able to contribute enough having last played in the division with Bristol Rovers. As a free agent, it is a very shrewd deal for the short term until players return after the new year.
