A Quiet Period: What Might Redmond Bring The Owls?
Nathan Redmond began his professional career with hometown club Birmingham City at age 16. Debuting in the League Cup against Rochdale in 2010, he became the club’s 2nd-youngest player ever.
Over three seasons for the Blues in the Championship and Premier League, Redmond featured in 82 matches, netting 9 goals, including his 1st league strike in a 3-0 triumph over Blackpool on December 31, 2011.
His impact on the first team earned him the clubs Young Player of the Year award in 2011-12.
In the summer of 2013, a £2 million transfer took him to Norwich City, where he impressed across 123 appearances, whilst scoring 13 goals in the Premier League and Championship. Redmond helped the club to secure promotion via the 2016 play-offs, scoring pivotal goals like the opener in a 2-2 draw with Everton in the Premier League.
Notably, a £10 million move to Southampton in June 2016 marked the start of his peak years, with 232 outings and 30 goals over 6 years on the South Coast.
He claimed Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year honours in 2018-19, aiding their survival in the Premier League, and starred in the 2021 run in the FA Cup, which saw the team reach the semi-finals.
After falling out of favour at Southampton, Redmond joined Turkish giants Beşiktaş in September 2022, contributing six goals in 28 games during the Süper Lig.
He soon returned to England with Burnley on a free transfer in July 2023, making 18 appearances across Premier League relegation and Championship struggles before his contract expired and was not extended in June.
Now linked with Sheffield Wednesday, this not only will aim to aid Wednesday’s survival hopes but also reignite Redmond’s career in what should be his prime years.

Get The Club Back Up And Running
Sheffield Wednesday, one of English football’s most historic clubs, finds itself at a pivotal crossroads following a tumultuous start to the Championship campaign.
On the pitch, the Owls sit bottom of the table on -4 points after a 12-point deduction was applied for entering administration at the end of October. That sanction, combined with a record of 1 win, 5 draws and 9 defeats from 15 matches with 12 goals scored and 29 conceded, has left manager Henrik Pedersen facing an uphill battle for survival.
Despite the efforts of experienced campaigners such as club captain Barry Bannan results have remained elusive in South Yorkshire so far.
The rumoured arrival of Nathan Redmond could provide the Owls with a brief respite. The 31-year-old former Southampton, Norwich City and England attacker brings proven Championship pedigree, promotion experience and leadership to a young attacking unit. His pace, creativity and big-game experience may prove decisive in the fight against relegation.
Off the field, the landscape is transforming. Chairman and owner Dejphon Chansiri’s 7-year tenure, marked by financial mismanagement, repeated EFL charges and strained supporter relations, appears to be drawing to a close.
Administrators from FRP Advisory now oversee the club’s operations, with 4 to 5 credible parties in advanced takeover discussions. A resolution before the January window would provide vital clarity and fresh investment as the club navigates its immediate future.
Relegation to League One, a division Wednesday escaped only 2 seasons ago, remains a real threat for this high-profile club once again. Yet the current upheaval also offers opportunity. New ownership, the passionate Hillsborough support and the experience of players like Nathan Redmond could spark a sustainable revival.
