Bolton Wanderers Ready for Huddersfield Town’s Revenge Mission

Bolton Wanderers head coach Steven Schumacher is fully prepared for a fired up Huddersfield Town when the two teams meet for the second time this month tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow’s FA Cup first round clash at the Toughsheet Community Stadium comes just over 2 weeks since the Trotters bagged a late win at the Accu Stadium in League One. Huddersfield had entered that game above their opponents in the table and on the fringes of the play-off positions. They looked good value to pick up the 3 points early on when Leo Castledine gave them the lead after just 7 minutes.

The Terriers dominated the first half but came out after the break a completely different team. Therefore, it was no surprise when Bolton got their rewards in the 93rd minute through Sam Dalby.

Steven Schumacher’s side weren’t finished there though. Two minutes later, they secured all 3 points through Amario Cozier-Duberry, who saw his effort from outside the box loop into the top corner.

Schumacher Prepared For Response

The Terriers followed that defeat by losing 3-0 at Wycombe Wanderers last weekend. This has seen manager Lee Grant come under serious pressure, and that could ramp up another notch with an early exit in the FA Cup.

As a result, Wanderers boss Schumacher is fully expecting their opponents to arrive ‘on the front foot’. Speaking to official club media ahead of the clash, the former Stoke City manager said:

“They are a good team, we got the result there in the league fixture a couple of weeks ago, but that’s gone now, they will be thinking exactly the same, they are in a period of form themselves where they need a performance and need a result, so they will come here fully intent to try and get on the front foot and cause us problems, which we expect, we expect a tough game and we want to get to the next round.

“You can’t take your focus off what’s in front of you and what’s next, but the FA Cup is a brilliant competition, I always loved playing in it as a player, I’ve loved it as a manager, I’ve had a couple of good experiences so we’re looking forward to it, it’s a great competition and we want to try and be in the hat for the next round.”

Rotation Set To Play A Major Role

Despite being handed one of the toughest ties in the opening round, Schumacher has confirmed that he will freshen up his starting lineup:

“It’s important for the players (to keep up the momentum), there will be opportunities for some people to play as well, I’ll make a couple of changes to the team because I think it’s important that people play and get ready for when they are called upon in the league, but our squad is really strong and whoever we choose to pick, there shouldn’t be a drop off in the level, so we are looking forward to it, get out there, play well and try and get yourselves in the next round of a cup game.

“The atmosphere has been good, especially over the last two results, we want that to continue and what better way to do that then by winning another game against a League One rival in a cup competition that everyone loves, so it’s trying to keep that positivity going and see where it takes us.”

The game at the Toughsheet Community Stadium kicks off at 3:00pm and will be settled on the day, with extra time and penalties to be utilised if required.
