Speculation over the future of Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards continues to mount after a day of ever-increasing chaos.
The 42-year-old only joined the Teesside-based club in the summer, replacing the outgoing Michael Carrick. Edwards had been out of work since departing Luton Town in January following a poor run of form which led to the Hatters facing a second successive relegation.
Early indications at the Riverside Stadium show that the appointment was the right one. Boro have enjoyed an excellent opening quarter of the season and are currently fighting for one of the 2 automatic promotion spots. However, Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City saw them slip to third in the table.
Wolves Interest Heats Up
Edwards has emerged as a serious contender for the vacant Wolves job this week after the Premier League outfit opted to sack Vitor Pereira last weekend. The former Watford boss does has an affinity with the West Midlanders, having represented them as a player between 2004 and 2008.
🚨 BREAKING: Middlesbrough have cancelled Rob Edwards’ scheduled press conference this lunchtime.
🐺 Boro have already turned down an approach from Wolves for manager Edwards.

“My full focus is on this job here, which is a brilliant job, and trying to turn things around.
“Speculation is hard for me to comment about. I never get drawn on stuff that’s all hypothetical and I don’t want to get drawn on that.
“I love being Middlesbrough manager and that’s what I want to think about. All I can say is I’ve not given it a single thought because my focus is just on this. It’s all the stuff that my daughter was telling me about.”
Despite that, it was reported yesterday that Wolves had approached the Championship club to speak to their current head coach. However, their interest was rejected out of hand.
Speculation Increases After A Day Of Turmoil
Although Middlesbrough have remained firm in their stance, speculation has continued to mount throughout the day. With a crucial clash with Birmingham City set for tomorrow afternoon, Edwards was set for media duties this afternoon but it was confirmed earlier that his press conference had been cancelled.
Furthermore, The Northern Echo now state that he wasn’t present at training either. Instead, assistants Adi Viveash and Harry Watling took control of Friday’s sessions.
It is claimed that he is holding showdown talks with Boro chiefs, who are demanding answers over his future.
As reported by @RobLawTees, Rob Edwards didn’t take #Boro training this morning.
He’s understood to be holding talks with club bosses, who want answers from the head coach.
