Winger Breaks Silence on QPR Split — ‘Every Choice Has Consequences’

Former QPR midfielder Lucas Andersen has spoken candidly about the ‘consequences’ of his summer decisions after parting ways with the Championship side earlier this year.

The 31-year-old remains a free agent following his departure from Loftus Road, admitting he turned down several lucrative offers abroad while waiting for the right next step in his career.

Andersen Accepts Outcome of Summer Decisions

The Danish playmaker joined Queens Park Rangers in February 2024 after leaving AaB Fodbold, reuniting with head coach Martí Cifuentes, who had previously managed him in Denmark. During his spell in west London, Andersen made 51 appearances across all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists.

When his contract expired at the end of June 2025, QPR confirmed his departure, ending a spell that saw him become a popular figure among supporters. Reflecting on that decision, Andersen told Danish media he accepted full responsibility for how events unfolded.

“I have also decided that I don’t want to play just to play,” he explained. “I accept the consequences it must have and am waiting for the right change in my football career.”

Reports suggested Andersen received offers from Olympiakos Nicosia and several clubs in Saudi Arabia but declined each, opting instead to hold out for a project that reignites his passion for the game.

Fond Farewell to Loftus Road

Upon leaving the club, Andersen paid tribute to those he worked with during his 18-month spell in England, highlighting the impact of the fans and his teammates in particular.

“QPR has been one of the best places I’ve been as a whole — my team-mates, fans, stadiums and the football heritage is unmatched,” he said.

“It’s always been my goal to not only be remembered as the footballer but also a good human being. My family have loved every second of living in London. And we are definitely coming back.”

The attacking midfielder picked his standout moment as the 4-0 victory over Leeds United in April 2024, when he found the net under the lights at Loftus Road in front of a packed home crowd.

QPR CEO Christian Nourry praised Andersen’s professionalism and influence on the team, acknowledging his role in keeping the club in the Championship during the 2023/24 season.

“Lucas played a critical role in our remaining an EFL Championship club,” Nourry said. “He is a wonderful person and a skilful number 10 who gave us some iconic moments such as his goal in the win over Leeds and the late winner at Preston.”

Andersen, who has also represented Ajax and Grasshopper Club Zürich, remains without a club as of November 2025 but insists he is content to wait for an opportunity that fits his footballing philosophy.
