Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town host Javi Gracia’s Watford in the Sky Bet Championship at Portman Road on Tuesday night.
Our Three Predictions for Ipswich Town vs Watford
- First Prediction: Ipswich Town to win – 4/6
- Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 2/9
- Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 8/11
First Prediction for Ipswich Town vs Watford – Ipswich Town to win – 4/6
Although these two sides are separated by just one position and one point, funnily enough, neither side have great away form, but are up with some of the best sides in terms of home form. For example, Watford have the best home form in the Championship, but the second worst away form, whilst the hosts have the joint second best home form, and the third worst away form.
On their travels this season, the Hornets are yet to pick up a win in the six games they’ve played, picking up two points out of a possible 18, whilst the Tractor Boys have picked up 14 points from a possible 21, joint with Championship rivals Preston North End, Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Hull City, who are all in the top seven as things stand.
On top of this, McKenna’s side will go into this game full of confidence after back-to-back wins against West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers, the latter their first away win of the season last weekend. The away side have picked up some positive form since new manager Gracia was re-appointed Hornets boss; however, their poor away form may prove to be their downfall in tomorrow evening’s clash.

Second Prediction for Ipswich Town vs Watford – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 2/9
One thing both sides’ games have included is goals at both ends. Whilst the hosts have the joint third-best scoring record in the second tier, with 21 goals scored, they also have struggled to keep them out at the other end, and this has not been helped by injuries, with the likes of number one keeper Alex Palmer out. Although Watford aren’t as good as their opponents in front of goal, they have found the back of the net a respectable number of times, scoring 17 times in 13 games. The Hornets also have a worse record when it comes to defence, conceding 16, whilst Ipswich’s record sits at 14.
In their last five games alone, the Suffolk-based side have scored nine times, and have a seasonal average of scoring 1.75 goals per game. However, their goals conceded average also sits above one, the record currently sitting at 1.17 goals conceded per game, and in their last five games, McKenna’s side have shipped six goals.
Their opponents have netted seven times in their last five games, whilst also conceding six goals. In terms of their average goals scored and goals conceded per game, they both stand at above one, with 1.31 goals scored per game and 1.23 goals conceded per game.
Based on the stats, it’s clear to see why this game could be a high-scoring affair.
Third Prediction for Ipswich Town vs Watford – Both teams to score – 8/11
To further back up my previous point, Ipswich rarely ever fail to score, and have only failed to put the ball in the back of the net on two occasions, whilst Gracia’s side have only failed to score four times this season, and once since Gracia took the hotseat at Vicarage Road.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, these sides are separated by just one position and one point, which may make Tuesday’s encounter a close one between two sides looking to kick on after relatively poor starts to the season. The Tractor Boys have taken a while to get going again after relegation from the Premier League, whilst the away side has sacked one manager this season already.
With the Championship table being so close, three points could leave either side potentially just one point off the play-off spots, depending on other results from around the grounds. A win for either side could therefore prove crucial.
Since 2010, these sides have faced each other 12 times, all 12 encounters coming in the Championship. Out of these 12, Watford have won half of them, whilst their opponents have won four. Two further games have ended level at full time, including the game where these two sides last met, back in the 2023/24 season. Despite finishing 15th that season, the Hornets picked up a point on the road against Ipswich, who won promotion that season.
