Middlesbrough vs Wrexham: Prediction, Lineups, Betting Tips & Odds (25/10)

Middlesbrough play host to Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham side this Saturday at the Riverside Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship.

Our Three Predictions for Middlesbrough vs Wrexham

  • First Prediction: Middlesbrough to win – 4/6
  • Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 3/10
  • Third Prediction: Both sides to score – no – 10/11

First Prediction for Middlesbrough vs Wrexham – Middlesbrough to win – 4/6

Although Wrexham are a very good side, they haven’t started life in the Championship as well as they would’ve hoped, and currently sit 15th after playing 11 games. Whilst this would be a good start for many promoted teams coming up from League One, with the amount of money the Welsh side has spent, this is rather poor for their high standard. After being in and around the play-offs for the last few seasons, Middlesbrough have started this season well, and currently find themselves second, just one point off league leaders Coventry.

After playing five games at the Riverside, Boro are still unbeaten, and have the joint best home record in the Championship, only Hull City and Watford, who have both played six home games, matching their record. After going three games winless in their last five, they have responded by winning back-to-back games, beating Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday last week. As for Phil Parkinson’s side, they have only won once in their last five, picking up a win against struggling side Oxford United midweek. In terms of their away record, whilst it isn’t the worst, it’s also not the best, picking up seven points in five games on their travels.

With the home form Boro have, mixed with the fact that they are back to winning ways, suggests they might come out in top in this clash on Saturday.

Second Prediction for Middlesbrough vs Wrexham – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 3/10

One thing that isn’t a problem for either side is their ability to score goals. Both sides have netted 15 goals in 11 games, which is not the best record, but also again, isn’t the worst record. This, on average, for both sides equates to 1.36 goals scored per game. One thing the Red Dragons have also struggled with at the beginning of this season is keeping goals out at the other end. They’ve conceded 16 goals, one more than they have scored, which is the joint third worst record in the league, only behind the aforementioned Hull and Wednesday. This translates to an average of 1.45 goals conceded per game.

Third Prediction for Middlesbrough vs Wrexham – Both teams to score – no – 10/11

Contrary to my previous point, Middlesbrough’s defensive record is the best in the league so far; Edwards’ side only conceding seven goals, two of which have come at home this season. On average, the hosts concede 0.64 goals per game, and in their last five, have only conceded three. Normally, you’d back Wrexham to be able to break a defence down, but they have only scored seven of their 15 goals on the road, in their five away games. Considering Boro have only conceded twice on home soil, the task of adding a third to their record looks hard, especially as the away side have only scored four goals in their last five matches.

As mentioned above, the hosts need to keep winning if they want to pile on the pressure at the top of the table. After dropping points in their last five games, against the likes of Portsmouth, Stoke City, and Southampton, Edwards’ side find themselves second, one point behind Frank Lampard’s Coventry City side. Meanwhile, Wrexham have had a steady start to life in the Championship, but haven’t had the start everyone was expecting, and currently sit 15th with 13 points.

Whilst it is still early in terms of the season, three points for either side could prove crucial already, Boro needing to keep up with Coventry, and Wrexham needing to climb the table if they want to achieve their plans of getting into the Premier League.

This is the first-ever league meeting between these two sides and the first meeting since 1999. The three occasions where these sides have met have come in both the League Cup and the FA Cup, Wrexham winning two of the three encounters, whilst Middlesbrough have won once.
