The draw for the FA Cup first round has been revealed as clubs from League One and League Two join the world’s most famous knockout competition.
This past weekend saw the final qualifying round take place before we enter the proper stages. As always, there were some big results, notably Hemel Hempstead Town’s 2-1 victory over Yeovil Town. Eighth tier outfit Maldon & Tiptree are the lowest ranked team left in the competition after beating Flackwell Heath 1-0.
Meanwhile, Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity are in the first round hat for the second season running after reaching the second round for the first time in 72 years last year. The Holy Blues drew 1-1 with Hartlepool United on Saturday in a result which saw manager Simon Grayson sacked.
Last season saw the FA Cup crown a first time winner in Crystal Palace following a stunning 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final at Wembley Stadium in May. Preston North End were the EFL’s last remaining club, reaching the quarter final where they eventually lost 3-0 to Aston Villa.
