Former Wrexham goalkeeper Liam Hall has expressed his delight after signing for Championship rivals Sheffield United, following his release from the Racecourse Ground earlier this summer.
The 21-year-old joined Wrexham from Bradford Park Avenue in 2023 but did not make a senior appearance before departing when his contract expired at the end of last season.
After a brief trial at Rotherham United, Hall has earned a professional deal at Bramall Lane until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with an option to extend by a further year.

“Delighted to have signed” — Hall grateful to Wrexham
Confirming the move on social media, Hall shared his appreciation for his time in North Wales and his excitement at joining the Blades as he looks to establish himself at Championship level.
“Delighted to have signed for Sheffield United,” he said. “First of all, I would like to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity and thank you to Wrexham for everything they have done the last 2 years and to Visum Sports for their constant support and belief in me.”

Limited opportunities at the Racecourse
Hall found first-team chances hard to come by at Wrexham amid fierce competition in goal. The arrivals of Danny Ward and the continued presence of Arthur Okonkwo meant opportunities were scarce, while Callum Burton and youngster Reuben Egan have provided further depth.
Although Hall never featured in competitive action for the Red Dragons, his move marks a step up in level and represents a new chance to build his professional career. Sheffield United, recently relegated from the Premier League, have been reshaping their squad with a mix of youth and experience as they adapt to life back in the Championship.
Wrexham move on with new signing
Phil Parkinson’s side have already identified cover in goal, with reports suggesting a deal is close for trialist Sam Hocking. The new addition would supplement Ward, Burton and Egan as Wrexham continue to strengthen after a busy summer that saw 13 new arrivals following their £33 million spend.
The reshuffle was part of a wider strategy to prepare for Championship football, with 8 senior players released at the end of last season, including veteran forward Steven Fletcher. Despite fan disappointment at some of those exits, the refreshed squad has started the campaign with optimism.
Writer’s View
For Hall, this is a smart move: a clean slate with a club renowned for giving younger players opportunities. His time at Wrexham was spent largely in development, but the Sheffield United deal gives him a platform to prove his quality within a high-performance environment.
From Wrexham’s perspective, the timing makes sense; they are well stocked in goal and focused on competing higher up the table. Hall’s message of gratitude reflects well on both parties and shows the professional pathway Wrexham’s setup now provides, even for players who move on.
