Our Three Predictions For Reading vs Mansfield Town:

  • First Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Match Result – Reading – 29/20
  • Second Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Under 3.5 Goals – 1/3
  • Third Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 7/10

First Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Match Result – Reading – 29/20

It’s difficult to look past a Reading win when the Royals are on home soil. Noel Hunt’s outfit have won their last four in all competitions in Berkshire, defeating West Ham United U21’s in midweek in the Vertu Trophy. After losing their first two league games at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, the Royals have since responded in style, though their home record is the fifth-worst in the third tier, as they have played a game fewer than most. After Mansfield took four points from their first nine on offer away from Nottinghamshire, they’ve slipped to back-to-back defeats on the road, including at newly-promoted Port Vale two weeks ago. Expect the Stags to be defeated away from home for the third time in succession, while Reading should record their fifth successive home success this weekend.

Second Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Under 3.5 Goals – 1/3

Only the bottom two in League One have scored fewer home goals than Reading’s four in as many games this term. Their five against though stands them in much better stead in comparison with their third-tier rivals, and the Royals have netted five times in their past two games across all competitions. With only one clean sheet this season, expect a Mansfield side who have averaged a goal a game this season, to also breach their defence this weekend. And the Stags’ tally of eight against should fill the Reading strikers with plenty of confidence in netting multiple times tomorrow afternoon.

Third Prediction For Reading vs Mansfield Town: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 7/10

Reading have enjoyed a good recent history against Mansfield, winning each of the last three encounters, leading the overall head-to-head by fourteen victories. Last season was the first time they had played each other this century, with the Royals winning by an aggregate scoreline of 7-2, thanks to a five-one thrashing back in April. In each of the last four encounters, both teams have got on the scoresheet, and expect the same outcome tomorrow afternoon.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Reading have been boosted by an improvement in results, which has seen them start to edge away from the League One relegation zone. After missing out on the Play-Offs on goal difference last term, following a difficult few years off the pitch, expectations had been heightened this year. Another top-six push was expected, though the season had begun in quite the opposite manner. It all began with consecutive defeats to Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town, to put a massive dampener on any pre-season expectations. Though knocking Portsmouth out of the Carabao Cup briefly lifted spirits, as beating a side from a higher division would do, they were drawn against AFC Wimbledon in the second round. The Dons wasted no time in putting down a marker in Berkshire by beating Noel Hunt’s outfit in the league days later to make it three successive league defeats for the Royals. Teenager Andre Garcia rescued a late point at Bolton Wanderers, a result which finally started to turn the tide. But there was late disappointment at the other end, only a few days later, as Wycombe Wanderers stole a point in the 89th minute, after goals from Mamadi Camará and Lewis Wing had turned the game on its head at Adams Park.

After getting a dose of revenge in the League Cup against Wimbledon, with Camará again on the scoresheet as the matchwinner, Paddy Lane gave the Royals their first league win against Port Vale at the sixth time of asking. While Reading’s EFL Trophy campaign got underway with a defeat at local rivals Swindon Town, there was further disappointment at Barnsley after an eleven-day hiatus. But the Royals recorded consecutive home wins in RG2 against Leyton Orient, the side who had beaten them to the final Play-Off spot back in May. Former Reading man Sam Smith helped Wrexham dump his old side out of the League Cup at the 3rd round stage, but it was an ex-Red Dragon who helped the Royals take a point at Stockport County. Jack Marriott got the finishing touch on the break, before more late drama on Tuesday evening got them over the line against West Ham U21’s. They wrap up the group stages of the EFL Trophy against Milton Keynes Dons next week, before trips to Exeter City and Cardiff City. October ends with the rearranged game against Northampton Town, before Doncaster Rovers are the visitors to Berkshire.

Mansfield Town are showing their inconsistencies once again in League One, though they will be happier that it is on a week-to-week basis, rather than their collapse at the back end of last season. Stags supporters will have been relieved the campaign wasn’t a few weeks longer, after winning just four times in the second half of the season. And two of them victories were the final two games of the campaign, though any chance of carrying that forward was quickly ended. After losing at Burton Albion on the opening day, a reverse against newly-promoted Doncaster Rovers was the worst possible start to the season. But a response was provided at local rivals Chesterfield, scoring only two minutes into the contest at the SMH Group Stadium when Rhys Oates netted in a comfortable Carabao Cup win. That spurred something of a revival, helped by being drawn at Everton in the second round of the competition. Before that game came around, three successive wins against Exeter City, Blackpool and Leyton Orient sent them off to Merseyside in the highest spirits, but the Toffees proved too much for them.

After falling behind against Lincoln City, the Stags eventually levelled late in the game after Sonny Bradley was sent off. But their inconsistent form has been clear to see in September, losing at Wycombe Wanderers before taking a point off leaders Stevenage. But they twice shot themselves in the foot at Port Vale, with Ryan Sweeney sent off fourteen minutes in, before Will Evans conceded a 95th-minute penalty to give the Valiants a huge three points. Last Saturday, it was Mansfield’s turn to experience a late winner, as American striker Dom Dwyer bagged in the last minute to complete their second-half comeback against Rotherham United. There is no league action for Nigel Clough’s side next Saturday, owing to international call-ups, as they return to action against Newcastle United U21’s in the EFL Trophy. Luton Town await in League One in two weeks’ time, before hosting Wigan Athletic at the end of October.
