Bradford City manager Graham Alexander believes his side created ‘enough chances to win two games’ as the Bantams came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Rotherham United last night.
It’s been a phenomenal start to the season for the Yorkshire-based side, who returned to League One for the first time in six years. They’ve taken to life in the third tier exceptionally well and travelled the short distance to Rotherham last night hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points.
The game started brightly enough and Will Swan will feel he should have given his side the lead on two occasions in a frantic first half. However, it was the Millers who went into the break ahead thanks to Denzel Hall’s 20th minute effort.
Matt Hamshaw’s side have underwhelmed this season but doubled their advantage through Martin Sherif in the 50th minute. Bradford responded when Antoni Sarcevic pulled a goal back shortly after before a leveller from Alex Pattison nine minutes from time.
Alexander Disappointed With Draw
Despite coming from two goals down, this still feels as if it is two points dropped rather than one gained. The Bantams could now surrender their lead at the top of the table tomorrow should Stevenage or Lincoln City pick up a win in their respective outings.
Following the match, Alexander claimed his side weren’t clinical enough and they created enough chances to win two games:
“We should have won the game on chances. But it was a difficult game for many different aspects.
“Goals do change momentum and certainly if you’ve missed two chances, you can be a little bit down.
“But we’ve got to dispel all those things and just keep going, regardless of what’s happening, just thinking of the next action, the next opportunity and the next spell of the game to make sure we stay in it and make sure we’re creating chances.
“We’ve created more than enough chances to win two games.
“It should have been three points. I think we should be more clinical, but I think the goals we give away were quite cheap.”
Despite that, the former MK Dons boss was pleased with the character shown to fight back:
“But I think the players have done great. To come back from 2-0 down is difficult for any team.”
Writer’s View
Although Rotherham are struggling, a point against a local rival away from home will never be viewed as a bad result. However, it’s definitely a missed opportunity. The Bantams clash against Lincoln next week has been postponed due to the Imps having three players called up for international duty, meaning they could find themselves out of the automatic promotion places by the time they face Barnsley on October 18th.
