Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Coventry City are unbeaten in the Championship this season but have drawn four of their opening six matches. Lampard’s side began the campaign with a disappointing 0-0 home draw with Hull City before two high scoring victories got their season up and running.

City twice led at Derby County thanks to Bobby Thomas and Haji Wright but fell 3-2 early in the second half. Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp scored three times in just seven minutes to win the game 5-3. There was no such drama a week later at home to Queens Park Rangers as the Sky Blues ran out 7-1 winners thanks to two from haji Wright, Thomas-Asante, a Jack Rudoni double and a brace from Victor Torp.

The going has been slightly tougher since that comprehension victory as Coventry haven’t won in their last three league outings, drawing three in a row. They were pegged back twice at Oxford United after Wright and Torp had got on the scoresheet to finish the game 2-2 before needing their United States international Wright to rescue a point in the 96th minute at home to Norwich City. Last time out, an inspired Carl Rushworth in goal helped to secure a point on the road at Leicester City as the Sky Blues left the King Power Stadium with a point.

Coventry have scored 15 times this season and Haji Wright has five of those, followed by Victor Torp on four. Brandon Thomas-Asante has two goals and two assists to his name while Milan van Ewijk has created three goals. Coventry have conceded seven goals and kept two clean sheets so far this season.

After strolling to the League One title last season, Birmingham City have made a positive start to life back in the Championship, winning three and drawing one of their opening six matches.

They were unlucky not to start the season with three points when Jay Stansfield’s strike looked to have secured a win over Ipswich Town under the lights on the opening Friday of the second tier season only for George Hirst to score five minutes into added time from the spot to share the spoils.

Birmingham didn’t have to wait long for their first three points of the season, this time with the late drama benefitting them as they took on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Todd Cantwell had put Rovers ahead and that looked to have condemned City to defeat only for Jay Stansfield to score a 90th minute penalty. A draw looked to have been rescued but Lyndon Dykes had other ideas and snatched all three points in the 98th minute.

A first win of the season at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park came a week later thanks to a Seung-Ho Paik strike that was enough to beat Oxford United 1-0. Chris Davies’ side were unable to follow that win up with more points in their next fixture as they lost 2-0 at Leicester City and then 1-0 at Stoke City.

Swansea City’s visit to Birmingham provided relief for Blues as Lyndon Dykes again left it late to grab all three points, heading home a Patrick Roberts cross four minutes into injury time.

Birmingham have scored five times this season with Dykes and Stansfield on two apiece. The have only conceded five times and have kept two clean sheets.

The last 14 matches between these two sides have produced four wins for Coventry City, three for Birmingham City and seven matches where they could not be separated. The last time they came face to face was during Birmingham City’s Championship relegation season, but the points were shared with a win apiece.

The Sky Blues came out on top when the hosted their Midland rivals on a Friday night in December, securing a 2-0 victory thanks to a Callum O’Hare brace. The return fixture in April saw Birmingham claim what could have been three vital points in their survival quest, winning 3-0 thanks to an own goal, Ivan Sunjic and Jay Stansfield. City would eventually fall one point short of safety.

Only once in the last 14 games has the side playing away from home come out on top, with that happening in the meeting at St Andrew’s in April 2022. Birmingham had raced into a 2-0 lead through Kristian Pedersen and Gary Gardner before Ben Sheaf struck twice in five minutes to take the sides into half time level.

Michael Rose headed Coventry into the lead before a 90th minute O’Hare goal made sure of the points in a 4-2 win.

Coventry have scored 17 times in those 14 games and have six clean sheets whereas Birmingham have found the net 15 times and have also kept six clean sheets. There 32 goals scored in total at an average of just less than 2.3 per games across the previous 14 encounters.
