Ben Woods admitted he was ‘frustrated’ to join Peterborough United with an injury, after marking his debut with a resilient display in the 1-0 win at Plymouth Argyle.
The 22-year-old, signed from Accrington Stanley last month, overcame a finger injury to feature for the first time since joining Posh and was trusted to help see out a valuable victory at Home Park.
Woods Relishes First Taste of League One
Introduced in the second half with Posh defending a one-goal lead courtesy of JJ Morgan’s strike, Woods was tasked with strengthening the midfield against a Plymouth side dominating possession. His early contribution was a sliding tackle that conceded a corner, before he immediately headed clear from the resulting set piece.
“It was great to be sent on in a game like that one,” Woods told the club’s in-house service. “And it was brilliant for me to help see the game out. It’s tough going on in a game when the opposition is dominating the ball, especially as we are ones who normally have the better possession stats.”
The former Accrington man admitted he had expected an opportunity after being instructed to stay warm at half-time. His composure on the ball helped calm nerves as Posh came under late pressure, while counter-attacks almost led to further goals.

Posh Looking to Build Momentum
The win was only Posh’s second in recent weeks, but Woods believes it can serve as a springboard for a side determined to climb the League One table.
“We felt we had been playing okay without getting the results so we were confident once we won one game we could get on a run,” he explained. “It’s now important to take the momentum into the game and use it well.”
For Woods personally, the focus is now on regaining fitness and pushing for a regular place in Darren Ferguson’s squad. “It was frustrating for me to be carrying an injury when I got here, but hopefully I can kick on now,” he added.
Writer’s View
Ben Woods’ debut may have come later than expected, but his contribution in a testing away fixture was an encouraging sign. His energy and willingness to compete gave Posh fresh legs in midfield at a crucial stage, and his confidence in reflecting on the performance suggests he is eager to make an impact at London Road.
With his injury behind him, Woods looks set to add depth and resilience to a squad still searching for consistency in League One. If he can build on this cameo, Posh may have secured a shrewd acquisition from the lower leagues.
