Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Reading’s season began in dismal fashion in the shape of two 2-0 defeats, away at Lincoln City on the opening day and at home to Huddersfield Town a week later. A win followed in the Carabao Cup as Championship side Portsmouth were beaten 2-1 thanks to goals from Andre Garcia and Kelvin Ehibhatiomham but that was followed by a third straight league loss, this time at the hands of AFC Wimbledon before the Royals finally registered a point away from home at Bolton Wanderers through another Garcia goal.
Mamadi Camara and Lewis Wing helped to secure another point, this time away from home at Wycombe Wanderers. That result was followed by further progression in the Carabao Cup thanks to victory over AFC Wimbledon before they finally achieved a much needed league win at home to Port Vale thanks to a Paddy Lane strike.
Defeat in the EFL Trophy against Swindon Town preceded a 3-2 defeat at Oakwell as Barnsley triumphed despite goals from Jack Marriott and Daniel Kyerewaa.
Reading have scored seven goals this season and Lewis Wing leads the charts with two goals and two assists. The Royals have kept one clean sheet and conceded 12 goals so far this season.
Leyton Orient’s campaign began with a disappointing defeat on the road at Huddersfield Town, going down 3-0 to Lee Grant’s men. An own goal and a Josh Koroma strike were enough to get the first three points on the board at the BetWright Stadium against Wigan Athletic. Wycombe Wanderers knocked Wellens’ side out of the Carabao Cup before they picked up a draw at home to Stockport County and got back to winning ways at Plymouth Argyle thanks to another Koroma goal.
A heavy loss at Mansfield Town was followed by a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Northampton Town before an EFL Trophy success over Peterborough United. Orient then secured a dramatic victory at Vale Park against Port Vale, claiming all three points thanks to a 95th minute Charlie Wellens strike. Vale struck first but Aaron Connolly equalised minutes later and Dominic Ballard gave the visitors a half time lead. Devante Cole got the hosts back on level terms before Wellens’ late strike.
Last time out, it was Orient’s turn to face last minute heartache as Bolton Wanderers rescued a point in the 94th minute after Jack Simpson had given his side the lead.
Orient have scored ten times so far this season and Josh Koroma has been involved in five of those, scoring three and providing a further two. Defensively, Wellens’ side has kept two cleans sheets but conceded 13 times in just eight games.
Reading have a poor record against Leyton Orient and haven’t beaten their visitors in any of the most recent four meetings between the pair, losing on three occasions. Last season, Leyton Orient completed the double over the Royals as they pipped Reading to the final playoff spot. In September, Orient travelled to Berkshire and departed with all three points thanks to a 27th minute Charlie Kelman strike. January’s return fixture was settled thanks to strikes from Dilan Markanday and another Charlie Kelman goal.
The season prior saw Orient again win the match as Brisbane Road but this time in dramatic fashion. Jordan Brown gave the home side a 26th minute lead before Tyler Bindon got Reading back into the game after 35 minutes. The game looked to be heading for a draw before George Moncur scored from close range in the 90th minute. Daniel Agyei scored from the penalty spot to give Orient the lead in the return fixture but that didn’t last long as Harvey Knibbs equalised four minutes later and the match ended in a share of the spoils.
In the four meetings, Leyton Orient have scored six times and kept two clean sheets while Reading have only scored twice.
