These two sides enter this match in dreadful form, both having won just once of their last five in the league and will be wondering where their next victory is coming from. Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Barrow head into this fixture in dismal form having lost four of their last five league matches, going down 2-1 at Bristol Rovers in their most recent League Two outing. The Cumbrians were 2-0 down inside half an hour at the Memorial Stadium and couldn’t drag themselves back into the game despite a Connor Mahoney consolation.
Defeat in Gloucestershire was the third on the bounce for Andy Whing’s side after a 3-1 home defeat to Swindon Town and a 1-0 reverse, also at home, to Fleetwood Town. Prior to the run of defeats, Barrow enjoyed their second league win of the campaign away from home at Colchester United, with goals from Jack Earing and Lewis Shipley giving them a 2-0 goal win in Essex.
Barrow’s other victory came at home to Notts County in a game that ended in dramatic fashion. Tyler Walker opened the scoring for Barrow after half an hour before the in-form Matthew Dennis equalised for County in the 89th minute. It was seven minutes into injury time when Lewis Shipley struck to seal all three points.
Shipley has scored three of Barrow’s six goals so far this season, with Andy Whing’s side keeping just one clean sheet and have conceded 11 times.
Crewe Alexandra are also in a poor run of form and are without a league win for a month since beating Fleetwood Town 4-1 away from home on August 19th. An own goal and strikes from Josh March, Calum Agius and Reece Hutchinson secured the points in Lancashire.
Since then, The Railwaymen have fallen to defeat at Gillingham, suffered a heavy home loss to Swindon Town, drawn away at Colchester United and been beaten on home turf by Barnet. Despite their poor run, Lee Bell’s side still only find themselves outside the playoff places on goal difference at this early stage of the campaign.
The season couldn’t have started any better with four wins from the opening four League Two matches. A win on matchday one was secured at Salford City thanks to an own goal and a brace from Conor Thomas and that was followed up by a 2-0 home success against Accrington Stanley with Hutchinson and Agius finding net.
Tommi O’Reilly was the match winner against Crawley Town in the game prior to their last league win against Fleetwood.
Bell’s side have scored 12 goals with the likes of Calum Agius, Conor Thomas and Reece Hutchinson registering two apeice. Josh March has helped himself to two goals and provided four assists in an impressive start to the season. Crewe have conceded nine goals and kept two clean sheets.
In the previous six meetings between these two sides, the spoils have been shared with three wins apiece.
Last season, when both teams finished in mid table, saw Barrow take the points in the first meeting thanks to a Theo Vassell strike before Crewe won the return fixture 3-0 thanks to goals from Connor O’Riordan, Tom Lowery and Matus Holicek.
The contests during the 2023-24 season both ended 3-1 in the favour of the visiting side. A festive period meeting at Mornflake Stadium was settled by a Ben Whitfield brace and a Gerard Garner penalty for Barrow with Elliott Nevitt’s strike proving nothing more than a consolation. Crewe would travel to Cumbria in January and return home with maximum points thanks to goals from Nevitt, Lewis Billington and Holicek after Robbie Gotts had given the hosts an early lead.
Across the six games, Barrow have scored eight goals to Crewe’s ten and both sides have kept two clean sheets each.
