Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Swansea City has made a solid start to their campaign, claiming eight points and sitting a place outside the playoff spots in the early stages of the season.
Alan Sheehan’s side opened their seaosn with a defeat at high-flying Middlesbrough before knocking League Two side Crawley Town out of this competition on home soil.
Ronald Pereira’s 66th minute strike was enough to see off a pointless Sheffield United and a Zan Vipotnik strike earned a point at home to Watford.
The Swans needed penalties to beat Plymouth Argyle and set up this contest but produced an impressive display to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough with Vipotnik and Pereira getting the goals.
Swansea City have scored six goals so far this season and they have been split equally between Zan Vipotnik and Ronald Pereira with Zeidane Inoussa providing two assists.
The Swans have only conceded four goals and kept two clean sheets this season in league action.
The same duo looked to have gained another three points on Saturday at home to Hull City only for John Egan to rescue a 97th minute point for the visitors.
Nottingham Forest’s Postecoglou era got off to the worst possible start with a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates and the former Tottenham Hotspur boss will be hoping progression to the Carabao Cup fourth round will kick start his reign at the City Ground.
Forest are only four matches into the new Premier League season but have won just once as they look to build on last season’s impressive seventh place finish.
Postecoglou’s first match in charge ended in defeat at the Emirates that followed a loss by the same 3-0 score line in Nuno Espirito Santo’s last game at home to West Ham United.
Forest kicked off their season with a 3-1 home win against Brentford with two goals coming from Chris Wood and the third from Dan Ndoye.
A Callum Hudson-Odoi strike was enough to secure a point away at Crystal Palace before the defeats to the Hammers and at the Emirates.
Nottingham Forest have scored four goals this season, with two of those coming from Chris Wood and the impressive Elliot Anderson has provided one assist. Ange Postecoglou will need to tighten up the defence as his side have conceded eight goals in their opening four matches.
These two sides have met 14 times since 2010 and cannot be separated, each claiming five wins apiece. The last time they shared a pitch was during Nottingham Forest’s successful promotion campaign of 2021-22 and the former European Champions ran riot against their Welsh counterparts. The first meeting came in December at the Liberty Stadium and saw Forest prevail by four goals to one with the scorers that day including Lewis Grabban and Brennan Johnson.
In the reverse fixture at the City Ground, Forest again dominated and a Sam Surridge hattrick helped them on their way to a 5-1 win. A Cyrus Christie own goal gave Forest the lead before Michael Obafemi equalised for the Swans to make the half time score 1-1. Surridge then took control, scoring his three goals in a blistering 20 minute spell before Alex Mighten rounded off the scoring late on.
The season before was a different story as it was Swansea City beat Forest on three occasions as they completed a league double on their to a playoff place and were successful in their FA Cup fourth round meeting. The first league encounter, at the City Ground, was settled by Connor Roberts before Swansea handed out a convincing FA Cup beating two months later. Liam Cullen and Matt Grimes both scored twice and Oliver Cooper completed the 5-1 rout late on. Roberts was again the man to get the goal to earn all three points in the second league meeting in February.
In the last five meeting between these two there have been 19 goals, with Forest scoring ten and Swansea with nine and Swansea are the only side to have kept a clean sheet, shutting Forest out twice in their 1-0 victories.
