Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has completed a permanent move to Cypriot First Division leaders Aris Limassol, recently knocked out of the Conference League.
The 34-year-old leaves West Ham United after a year in East London to continue his career abroad.
Ex-Blades stopper heads to Cyprus
Foderingham, who made 102 appearances for Sheffield United between 2020 and 2024, has joined Aris on a permanent deal after serving as experienced cover at West Ham last season. The Hammers confirmed his departure on Tuesday, thanking the keeper for his contribution behind the scenes and noting his recognition as the club’s PFA Community Champion for 2024/25. Aris, who finished runners-up last term and have started strongly this season, add a proven professional with nearly 500 senior games to their squad.
The move gives Foderingham a fresh platform following a campaign at the London Stadium in which Alphonse Areola and Łukasz Fabiański dominated minutes. At Bramall Lane, he was a mainstay, helping United win promotion in 2022/23 with 18 league clean sheets, and he also boasts trophy-winning experience from spells with Rangers and Swindon Town. In Cyprus, he will compete in a league that has increasingly attracted well-known names in recent seasons, with Aris themselves building a group capable of domestic contention and European qualification.
For United supporters, the switch underlines the keeper’s enduring stock after a stint that included Premier League football and a pivotal role in a promotion campaign. For Aris, it is the arrival of a calm, vocal presence who commands his box and has shown consistency across multiple levels in England and Scotland.
Should he secure the No 1 shirt, regular minutes and potential European qualifiers could follow, a contrast to his squad role in England last year.

Writer’s View
Foderingham’s departure leaves West Ham with a goalkeeping reshuffle early in the season. While the Hammers retain strong options, the veteran’s experience and professionalism had been valued within the group. Seeing keepers go to big clubs for little game time is not new – Scott Carson won trophies on the bench at Man City, and Paul Farman recently bagged a move to Swansea despite being released by Barrow. Eventually, the lure of first team football is just too much.
Aris, meanwhile, gains a goalkeeper accustomed to pressure environments and late-season run-ins, qualities that can be decisive in a tight title race. With their Conference League campaign ending against Greek outfit AEK Athans, they’ll be hoping to stay atop of their domestic division, and ensure more European action for Foderingham next time out.
