European Side Make Move For Blackburn Rovers Forward

Blackburn Rovers‘ Makhtar Gueye is moving closer to an exit from Ewood Park, according to reports in Turkey.

The Senegalese forward has fallen out of favour in Valerien Ismael’s plans this season, with the Rovers’ number nine making just one start this season in their EFL Cup defeat at the hands of League One’s Bradford City. Gueye has failed to start in any of the Lancashire side’s last nine Championship matches, with Yuki Ohashi given the nod in front of him.

Turkish Transfer Possible

Despite the English transfer window closing earlier this week, other markets remain open such as in Turkey, where there is still one week left for their side to complete deals. One side that could make a move is Kocaelispor, who have been tipped by transfer reporter Resat Can Ozbudak to make a move for Gueye.

His report on social media suggests that Blackburn have been in talks with Kocaelispor over a potential deal for the 27-year-old, and that “significant progress” has been made in reaching an agreement over the forward. Kocaelispor went up as champions of the Turkish second tier last season and currently sit one point above the drop zone after four matches of the season.

An exit for Gueye has been tipped for a long time, with reports from Graeme Bailey at the start of August suggesting that the forward would be open to a move away from Ewood Park. Ismael made a late window move for Icelandic forward Andri Gudjohnsen, with the 23-year-old still waiting to make his debut for Blackburn.

Writers’ View

Makhtar Gueye’s future at Blackburn seems to be in the air as his minutes have become limited in recent months. While he had a slow start to his time in Lancashire after his move from Belgium, he had a solid season with 12 goals and assists in 46 Championship matches. However, with Andri Gudjohnsen coming in, his place as Yuki Ohashi’s deputy could be under threat. A move to Turkey could guarantee him more game time with a team looking to build on a successful previous season; however, his time at Blackburn will have to be chalked down as a disappointment.
