Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
It may have taken Barnet a few weeks, but the Bees seem to have adjusted to life back in League Two after seven seasons away. Their return to the Football League couldn’t have got off to a worse start, losing 2-0 at home to Fleetwood Town on the opening day, by the same scoreline away at Bromley a week later and by a 2-1 reverse to Walsall on the third weekend of the season.
Swindon Town away was the next stop for Dean Brennan’s side in desperate search of their first points. A fine performance from on-loan keeper Ciaran Slicker looked to have secured a point before Emmanuel Osadebe struck with five minute remaining and Dennis Adeniran got the second ten minutes into added time.
Osadebe would then be sent off in the match at Cheltenham Town with his side leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Oli Hawkins but Barnet were able to hold on to secure a second consecutive win. Danny Cowley’s Colchester United side were the next test for the resurgent Bees and they took a ninth minute lead at The Hive, the first goal Barnet had conceded in a little over 250 minutes of football. It was a 90th minute Danny Collinge strike that rescued a point for the hosts to extend their run to seven points from three games.
Defenders Ollie Kensdale and Danny Collinge have been two of the Bees best performers so far this season, with Collinge chipping in with a goal too. Barnet have scored five goals in their six matches, with Oli Hawkins helping himself to two of those. Defensively, they started the season poorly but have since kept two clean sheets in their last three games.
Shrewsbury Town suffered relegation from League One last season as the appointment of Michael Appleton failed to save their season. Salop have continued their poor form this season, picking up just two points from the available 18. They opened the season with a goalless draw at home to Bromley.
It got far worse the following week when they went down by four goals to nil at Tranmere Rovers before being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town. Colchester were then the visitors to The Croud Meadow and they went back to Essex with all three points thanks to a 2-0 win. Four goals were conceded again, this time at Notts County before another defeat away at Swindon Town.
That run of five defeats in a row was halted by a 3-1 win over Chelsea Academy in the EFL Trophy before they finally registered another league point with a 0-0 draw at home to fellow strugglers Accrington Stanley.
Salop have scored just twice this season and have conceded on 12 occasions. Callum Stewart and John Marquis are the only players to have found the net. Town have conceded an average of two goals per game but have kept two clean sheets.
