Lincoln City secured the loan signing of Jamaican international Dexter Lembikisa from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final moments of transfer deadline day.
The 21-year-old right-back will remain at Sincil Bank until January, adding versatility and international pedigree to Michael Skubala’s squad.
Lincoln City Complete Late Loan Move
Lembikisa has progressed through Wolves’ academy since joining at 13, making his senior debut for the Premier League side in 2022. His development has been aided by a series of loan moves, including spells with Rotherham United in the Championship, Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership, and Barnsley in League One. A short stint in Switzerland with Yverdon-Sport also broadened his experience.
At Barnsley last season, he became a regular during the second half of the campaign, showcasing his adaptability across the back line and further forward. Although primarily a right-back, Lembikisa has also been deployed at left-back, wing-back, defensive midfield and even as a winger. That flexibility could prove crucial for Skubala as the Imps look to strengthen their promotion push.
On the international stage, Lembikisa has established himself as a key figure for Jamaica, collecting close to 30 caps. He featured prominently at the 2023 Gold Cup, providing an assist in a 4–1 group stage victory against Trinidad and Tobago. His performances have underlined his reputation as a front-foot defender with an eye for contributing higher up the pitch.
The numbers add further weight to his reputation. Across around 1,400 senior minutes, he averages more than seven defensive duels per game and wins an impressive 72% of them, making him difficult to beat one-on-one. He also records nearly nine recoveries in the opposition half each match, demonstrating his proactive style of play and willingness to press high.
Discipline is another notable strength. Despite contesting so many duels, Lembikisa commits fewer than half a foul per game and is yet to receive a card at senior level. His reading of the game is also evident, with more than three interceptions per ninety minutes highlighting his anticipation and awareness.
For Lincoln, his arrival represents another calculated move in a busy summer, ensuring depth and quality in defensive areas remain strong heading into the autumn schedule.

Writer’s View
Lincoln’s deadline day move for Lembikisa reflects both ambition and pragmatism. The Imps have added a defender with Championship and international experience, yet still young enough to develop further. His ability to operate in multiple roles should provide Skubala with tactical flexibility, while his pressing numbers fit neatly into the high-energy style that has become a hallmark of City’s approach.
If he settles quickly, this could be one of the more astute short-term additions made across League One as clubs jostled to strengthen late in the window.
