Bradford City Manager Talks Up Club’s Pulling Power After Strong Window

Bradford City manager Graham Alexander says the club’s ability to sell itself to new signings lies in momentum, unity, and a sense of purpose rather than simply the lure of size or history.

The Bantams brought in more than ten players across the summer window following promotion, with Alexander calling the environment a “good package” for recruits.

Alexander on Bradford’s pulling power

Reflecting on a busy few months at Valley Parade, Alexander pointed to the feel-good factor created by last season’s dramatic return to League One. He believes the emotion of that promotion campaign, capped by a final-day win over Fleetwood Town, has made the club attractive to potential signings.

“People outside Bradford were talking about us all round the country after the scenes at the end of last season. Maybe then, people have half an eye on us going into this season. You’ve seen the results we’ve had against top clubs in our division and the one above. Other players can sense what’s going on a little bit and that’s good for us.”

Alexander stressed that honesty and collective standards were key to recruitment talks.

“I think we’re a good package for a player. It’s not perfect for everybody. But we’re transparent when we talk to people, this is what it is and what you have to buy in to. We’re not going to change for individuals, it’s about the group.”

The manager said that spirit has already helped shape the squad into a place players want to be, with those on the outside eager to be part of the project.

Departures on deadline day

While incomings dominated much of the summer, deadline day also saw outgoings. Winger Adam Wilson left the club by mutual consent after making 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring once since joining in 2023. Former Hull City and Sheffield United forward Tyler Smith also departed as City trimmed the squad.

The Bantams were still pushing late into the evening to secure defensive reinforcements, with Portsmouth’s Tom McIntyre among the targets.

Writer’s View

Bradford’s summer highlights how a club’s selling point can go beyond money or stature. Momentum, unity, and belief are Alexander’s watchwords, and the sense of identity built from last season is proving powerful in attracting talent.

The manager’s emphasis on group culture over individuals sets a clear tone for those arriving. With the squad refreshed and promotion energy carried into the new campaign, Bradford look to be shaping a foundation that can sustain more than just one step up the ladder.
