Boreham Wood have confirmed the signing of striker Lewis Richardson on a two-year contract following his release from Burnley at the end of last season.
The 22-year-old joins after scoring four goals in 14 appearances during a loan spell with York City in 2024/25.
Richardson Makes Boreham Wood Switch
Richardson arrives at Meadow Park with valuable experience across multiple levels of English football. Having spent a decade in Burnley’s academy, he made his Premier League debut as an 18-year-old in February 2021 against Tottenham Hotspur, becoming the Clarets’ youngest-ever top-flight debutant.
Injuries slowed his early progress, but loan moves gave him the platform to gain senior minutes. He featured for Grimsby Town in League Two during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring once in ten league outings, before making a greater impact at York City in the National League last season. His four goals in 14 appearances helped the Minstermen as they pushed into the play-off picture.
Now signed permanently with Boreham Wood, Richardson has the chance to build stability after leaving Burnley. For Luke Garrard’s side, the addition provides another attacking option as they seek to climb the National League table and compete for a return to the EFL.
Richardson also boasts international experience, having represented England at under-16 and under-17 level. That early pedigree, combined with flashes of quality during his loans, highlight his potential as he enters the next stage of his career.

Writer’s View
This looks like a smart piece of business for Boreham Wood. Richardson has pedigree from Burnley’s system, senior exposure in both the Football League and National League, and the hunger to prove himself after leaving a Premier League club.
His goals at York last term demonstrated end product, and the move gives him a platform for consistency at a level where he has already shown he can thrive. If he finds rhythm quickly, Boreham Wood may have secured a forward capable of becoming one of their leading assets.
