Josh Sargent could still leave Norwich City this window with a report suggesting that Sunderland are targeting the American international.
The 25-year-old was widely tipped to leave Carrow Road this summer, with reports across the window suggesting he could depart for Germany, with Wolfsburg frequently mentioned as a potential destination. However, a move to join former Sheffield United man Vini Souza at the Bundesliga side was scuppered due to the Canaries’ asking price last month.
Deadline Day Move Suggested
According to a report from Pete O’Rourke and Football Insider, Josh Sargent could move to Sunderland today as the Black Cats desperately search for a new striker. Their need comes after the recall of Marc Guiu from his loan on Wearside to parent club Chelsea in the wake of ex-Ipswich Town star Liam Delap’s hamstring injury against Fulham at the weekend.
Sargent is not the only name linked with a move to Regis Le Bris’ side, with Sky Sports reporting that Ajax forward Brian Brobbey is also a potential target to fill their forward vacancy to support Eliezer Mayenda in their Premier League campaign this season. Guiu started just one game of their opening four matches since their promotion to the top flight, playing in their EFL Cup second round tie against Huddersfield Town.
City boss Liam Manning has previously discussed whether the American international could leave Norfolk this summer, telling the Pink ‘Un that it would take an ‘unbelievable’ offer to pry their number nine away on deadline day. Norwich have already lost key players such as Borja Sainz and Emiliano Marcondes this window, the latter making the controversial switch to archrivals Ipswich.

Writers’ View
Norwich City cannot afford to lose Josh Sargent so late in this window so a move to Sunderland is very unlikely. Of course, every player has their price and if the Black Cats can table an irresistible offer to sporting director Ben Knapper and his team, then it should be seriously considered. However, with Sky Sports reporting that the Premier League side are pushing to sign Brian Brobbey from Ajax, it seems almost likely that Sargent will remain in yellow and green beyond today.
