Our Three Predictions For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic:
- First Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Match Result – Charlton Athletic – 7/5
- Second Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Under 2.5 Goals – 13/20
- Third Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20
First Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Match Result – Charlton Athletic – 7/5
There is only one place to start with the hosts, which is that catastrophic defeat by Coventry City last weekend. Trailing by five at the interval, a rocking CBS Arena saw the Sky Blues extend their advantage to seven through a Victor Torp brace, before Richard Kone’s late consolation goal. That saw the R’s drop into the Championship bottom three with their inferior goal difference. Charlton had started the campaign brightly, but their progress has been checked in the last week. Narrowly defeated by Abdul Fatawu’s wonderful strike for Leicester City last Saturday, they crashed out of the Carabao Cup in midweek against League Two Cambridge United. Nevertheless, expect the Addicks to bounce back the better of these two sides after their respective losses.
Second Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Under 2.5 Goals – 13/20
It goes without saying, but do not expect another eight goals in a game involving QPR this Saturday lunchtime. Nevertheless, Rangers were knocked out of the League Cup after a five-goal thriller against Plymouth Argyle. In their other two games to date, goals have arrived at both ends. Charlton have been very low-scoring, with just two goals between them and their opponents in the Hoops’ opening three second-tier encounters. But that resilience will be welcomed by Nathan Jones on their return to the Championship, so expect the Addicks to be as tight in defence again this weekend, with few goals.
Third Prediction For Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic: Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20
In each of the Hoops’ four games in all competitions, both sides have got on the scoresheet. That contrasts with the Addicks’ three second-tier games, where goals have been at a premium, as none of their games have had both teams scoring. In the last seventeen encounters between these two London rivals, there have not been more than four goals, stretching back to October 1997. Eight of the past nine games to have had a winner have been decided by a single goal, so another tight encounter should be anticipated, potentially with only a single goal.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Queens Park Rangers are under immediate pressure to deliver this Saturday lunchtime following their unacceptable showing against Coventry last weekend. Having opened their season with a draw against Preston North End, consecutive defeats to Watford and the Sky Blues have upset the West London faithful ahead of this London derby. Along with exiting the Carabao Cup in Round One, defeated by League One Plymouth Argyle despite leading two-nil, the Hoops have had a nightmare beginning to the season. An own goal from the Lilywhites Ben Whiteman was required for a share of the spoils at Preston. Kieran Morgan found the net in their defeat against Watford two weeks ago, while the only minor positive from last weekend’s thrashing was that Richard Kone got off the mark for his new club, with a late consolation. That has Julien Stéphan’s outfit third from bottom in the very early Championship standings, with plenty of question marks surrounding his team, approaching the first international break of the season.
On paper at least, the Hoops’ summer business looked to have been impressive. Koki Saito and Richard Kone headlined the new arrivals, arriving from Lommel SK and Wycombe Wanderers, respectively. Karamoko Dembélé also adds some excitement in the forward line for another seven-figure fee, with Rumarn Burrell further bolstering their players in the final third. Kwame Poku was picked up on a free transfer from Peterborough United, while Kealey Adamson (Macarthur) and Amadou Mbengue (Reading) improve their options at the other end of the pitch. Isaac Hayden, only 30 years of age, has been brought in from Newcastle United, while Rhys Norrington-Davies rounds off their business to date, on loan from Sheffield United. Last season’s League One golden boot winner, Charlie Kelman, will line up against his former employers this weekend, while Kenneth Paal (Antalyaspor), Morgan Fox (Wigan Athletic) and Nathan Shepherd (The New Saints) have been the R’s only other permanent departures.
Charlton Athletic’s surprisingly good start to their first second-tier season in five years has been checked in the past week. Finally responding to their relegation from the Championship back in 2020, their return to this level saw a dream opening day result courtesy of Harvey Knibbs’ 94th-minute winner against Watford. They easily progressed in the Carabao Cup against Stevenage, despite making eleven changes, with goals from Miles Leaburn, Ibrahim Fullah and Luke Berry doing the business. A stalemate at Ashton Gate a fortnight ago was seen as a well-earned point, particularly given the Robins had put four past Sheffield United seven days earlier. But they finally tasted defeat on Saturday against recently-relegated Leicester City, though the Foxes required a moment of quality to separate the two teams. Despite late pressure from the home side, which saw Lloyd Jones denied an equaliser due to a foul and Tyreece Campbell head over, they couldn’t nick a deserved point.
But in midweek, Jones’ outfit exited the League Cup against fourth-tier Cambridge United, trailing by two after half an hour before eventually losing three-one. The above-mentioned Kelman will be keen to impress against his former club, after joining the Addicks this summer. He was one of several impressive forward acquisitions from the third tier, with Rob Apter (Blackpool), Tanto Olaofe (Stockport County) and Harvey Knibbs (Reading) all joining Charlton in moving up a division. Sonny Carey also joins from the Tangerines, while Luton Town trio Thomas Kaminski, Amari’i Bell & Reece Burke add depth in their backline. Jon Rankin-Costello also adds to their defence from Blackburn Rovers, with Thierry Small going in the other direction to join Preston North End. Alex Mitchell moved to Plymouth Argyle on loan, while Gassan Ahadme also left for the third tier with Stevenage. Tennai Watson was deemed surplus to requirements, departing for Bransley.
