Plymouth Argyle Seal Agreement With Attacker

Plymouth Argyle have secured the future of academy star Tegan Finn after the teenager signed a three-year professional contract at Home Park.

The 17-year-old attacking prospect has already broken into the first team this season and was the subject of “concrete interest” from other clubs, according to head coach Tom Cleverley. Nottingham Forest were among those linked, but Finn has opted to commit to his boyhood side.

From debutant to first-team regular

Finn first appeared for Argyle as a 16-year-old under Wayne Rooney during a Championship clash at Leeds United in November 2024. Since then, he has added seven more senior appearances, including an eye-catching display in the Carabao Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.

Cleverley said the contract was a “significant move” for the club and praised the youngster’s temperament:

“There have been a few circling and we are pleased to get Tegan tied down. He’s someone who has impressed me from day one. I spoke to Wayne before I came here and he spoke highly of him. The early signs are good and there is no ceiling I can put on it right now.”

First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell added that Finn’s progress through the ranks from the age of six highlights the strength of Argyle’s academy. “It is brilliant news that one of our key products has decided to stay,” he said, urging the player to “work harder than ever” to maintain momentum.

Argyle’s wider transfer picture

The new deal arrives at a time when Cleverley continues to shape his young squad. He has reiterated that adding an experienced central midfielder is the club’s top priority before the September 1 deadline. Injuries have forced the use of players out of position, and the manager is keen to strengthen in the middle of the pitch.

Finn, however, is expected to feature again on Tuesday when Argyle travel to Swansea City for their Carabao Cup second-round tie. He could be joined in the line-up by fellow teenager Joe Hatch as Cleverley leans on youth in the short term.

Writer’s View

Securing Finn on a long-term contract is a major boost for Plymouth Argyle, not only for his talent but also as a statement of intent from a club determined to hold onto its brightest prospects. While speculation around young players is inevitable, Argyle’s ability to convince Finn to stay reflects the faith he has in the club’s pathway. With a young, developing squad, keeping homegrown players central to the project will be vital, and Finn looks set to play a significant role in both the present campaign and the long-term future at Home Park.
