Bolton Wanderers face competition from fellow League One sides and interest from elsewhere to secure the loan signing of Toyosi Olusanya.
The Trotters’ attacking options have struggled in the opening stages of this season so far, with Hull City loanee Mason Burstow the only out-and-out striker to score so far this season. With Dan Nlundulu being told he can leave by manager Steven Schumacher, another option up front could benefit the Lancashire side as the season progresses.
Olusanya Move Possible
One option which could arrive in Bolton before the window shuts this week is Toyosi Olusanya, who is seemingly on his way out of current club Houston Dynamo. The 27-year-old has played just nine times for the Major League Soccer side, with only one start to his name in the Leagues Cup. He arrived in Texas from Scottish Premiership club St. Mirren, where he had a successful spell over 18 months with 19 goals for the Paisley side.
Olusanya has limited experience in the EFL with three appearances for Middlesbrough and one for AFC Wimbledon, but that has not stopped League One and Two sides showing interest in a loan move according to EFL Analysis. Bolton Wanderers are joined by promotion rivals in Luton Town as well as Northampton Town and League Two’s Bristol Rovers.
The Hatters have already invested in new forward options this summer, signing Nahki Wells following his exit from Bristol City, who featured in their last game against Cardiff City on the weekend. Jerry Yates has also joined Matt Bloomfield in Bedfordshire, but is yet to score across five appearances.
A return to Scotland could also be on the cards for the former Reading academy prospect, with Hibernian and Dundee United both tipped with a loan move. The window in Scotland also shuts on September 1st, but at the earlier time of 7pm. Bolton have looked to Scotland for alternative striker options, with reports they will try one final bid for Celtic’s Johnny Kenny.

Writers’ View
A move for Toyosi Olusanya would be interesting for any side to make this window. He has struggled for consistency whilst in America but a move back to the UK could inspire more fruitful returns for the striker. With Bolton Wanderers still in need of a forward that can regularly deliver, it is a strange link to emerge for the former Middlesbrough man, but not surprising considering Steven Schumacher’s comments ahead of the match against Lincoln City. Adding depth alongside Mason Burstow and Sam Dalby could benefit the side as it will enable John McAtee to return to his prefered attacking midfield role, which could see the Trotters start to rise the table.
