‘Not Up To Me’ – Southampton Boss Opens Up On Everton Transfer Target

Southampton manager Will Still has urged patience with teenager Tyler Dibling as speculation continues over the winger’s future.

The 19-year-old has been the subject of multiple bids from Everton, but remains with the Saints and has returned to the matchday squad after missing the opening fixture.

Dibling Linked With Everton Move

Everton have tabled three offers for Dibling, the latest reportedly worth up to £37.5 million, as David Moyes looks to solve his shortage of wide options. The England youth international is believed to be open to the switch, but Southampton’s valuation has so far prevented an agreement.

Left out of the season opener against Wrexham, Dibling was back on the bench for the trip to Ipswich Town, signalling that he remains part of Southampton’s plans unless a breakthrough emerges in negotiations.

Still’s Approach

Still emphasised that the winger’s development remains the priority, regardless of the transfer noise.

“It’s not up to me to tell him what’s best for his career and his life. The one thing that is beneficial for everyone is that he trains, that he plays, that he’s involved. If he does well, then the interest will only grow for him, and we want good players on the pitch.

“Ty’s still young, he’s still learning how it all works. We just have to help him get through that, and we are.”

The Southampton boss added that honest conversations with Dibling have helped manage the situation, stressing that while there is “a lot of noise” in the background, the teenager’s focus must remain on performing when called upon.

Future Path

Whether Dibling remains on the south coast or departs before the deadline, the 2025/26 season looks set to be an important one for his career. A loan move to gain regular football has been floated, but Still has resisted speculation about what would be “best” for the player.

Dibling, who made his senior debut in 2023 and has two league goals to his name, is regarded as one of Southampton’s brightest prospects. His performances have already seen him capped by England at under-21 level, underlining the level of expectation around his development.

Writer’s View

Still is right to stress the need for balance as Dibling faces career-defining choices at a young age. Everton’s interest highlights the winger’s potential, but consistent minutes at Southampton could prove just as valuable in shaping his progress.

A Championship season would provide regular action and a platform to refine his game, though the lure of a Premier League move is strong. Ultimately, whichever path is chosen, ensuring Dibling plays and develops remains the most important factor.
