Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion: Prediction, Lineups & Odds (16/08)

West Bromwich Albion make the trip over the border to Wales to take on Hollywood side Wrexham on Saturday in an early kick-off in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Our Three Predictions for Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 21/10
  • Second Prediction: Under 2.5 goals to be scored – 13/20
  • Third Prediction: Karlan Grant to score at any time – 17/5

First Prediction for Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion – Match to end in a draw – 21/10

At this point in the season, it is impossible to predict what’s going to happen, and this has been demonstrated by the fact that both teams have been involved in dramatic encounters with other sides after just one league game. Wrexham suffered defeat against Southampton in the final minutes of the game away at St Mary’s Stadium, but were the ones who equalised in dramatic fashion midweek against Hull City, and then beat Sergej Jakirovic’s side on penalties. Although their opponents have been involved in less drama, a 1-0 win at the Hawthorns was followed by a midweek loss against Derby, who, like Wrexham, equalised late before beating the Baggies on penalties. On top of this, draw specialists West Brom drew 11 of their 19 games away from home last season. The away side are entering a new season with a new manager, whilst the hosts are entering a whole new league, and with both sides showing strengths and a few weaknesses so far, it’s easy to see why this match is predicted to finish level after 90 minutes.

Second Prediction for Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion – Under 2.5 goals to be scored – 13/20

One thing that hasn’t been as dramatic as some of the opening fixtures for these teams is the number of goals scored or conceded. Although the Red Dragons played their part in a 3-3 draw on Tuesday, that was very much a rotated XI played by manager Phil Parkinson, whilst their opponents, Hull, went quite strong. Mason’s side, on the other hand, kept a clean sheet in their opening league game and almost had a second on Tuesday, before conceding from a free kick against the Rams. Whilst the Baggies look defensively good, they have also proved that goalscoring at the moment, is not their strong suit, scoring two goals in two games. Wrexham’s first Championship game saw the side only score once, from the penalty spot, whilst the two goals that Southampton scored came late on. Although both sides aren’t defensively sound yet, they are also struggling in front of goal, meaning this game could be relatively low scoring.

Third Prediction for Wrexham vs West Bromwich Albion – Karlan Grant to score at any time – 17/5

With key attackers like Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany unavailable, and others such as striker Josh Maja still regaining sharpness after injury, West Brom will be relying on different sources for attacking impetus. New arrivals, including Norwegian forward Aune Selland Heggebø, are still adapting to the demands of English football. As a result, wide players, most notably Karlan Grant, will be expected to shoulder more responsibility. Grant, who netted seven goals and added two assists last season, is valued for his attacking versatility and has already shown good form in pre-season, scoring twice in his previous three outings. Both the club and the 27-year-old winger will be eager for him to carry that momentum into the league and get off the mark this Saturday.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides have had a decent start to the 2025/26 season, with both sides winning one game and losing one game. For the hosts, they lost in dramatic style away at St. Mary’s last weekend, but came from behind, also in dramatic style, to beat Hull on penalties in the Carabao Cup midweek. For the Baggies, it is the opposite, with Ryan Mason’s side picking up a 1-0 over Blackburn in the Championship, and losing on penalties midweek in the cup against Derby.

There’s no doubt that these sides will be aiming for promotion this season, with the away side looking to improve on last season’s ninth-placed finish, whilst newly promoted Wrexham will be aiming for their fourth consecutive promotion.

This meeting marks only the third encounter between the two sides in history. Their most recent clash occurred in the 1971 Watney Cup, while the other was in the FA Cup. With each team having secured one victory each, this fixture is their first-ever league meeting.
