Bristol City have been handed a major transfer test with European and Championship rivals circling for Ross McCrorie.
The Scotland international’s strong form has caught the eye of Serie A side Udinese, as well as Norwich City and clubs in Major League Soccer.
McCrorie Interest Mounts After Strong Start
Udinese are reportedly preparing a move for McCrorie, with a fee in the region of £3.5million believed to be required to tempt the Robins into a sale. The Italian outfit are close to sealing a deal for Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller, but manager Kosta Runjaić is keen to further strengthen his defensive ranks.
Norwich are also monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation, while MLS sides are understood to be keeping tabs on developments as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
McCrorie’s value is at a high after an impressive first outing of the 2025/26 season. He was on the scoresheet as Gerhard Struber’s side stunned Sheffield United with a 4-1 win at Bramall Lane, operating in a wing-back role that has become increasingly influential in City’s system.

Key Figure Under Struber
The former Rangers and Aberdeen man has quickly become a pivotal figure for the Robins, ending last season with four goals in the final seven matches as the club reached the Championship play-offs. That run of form underlined his attacking contribution from deep and justified Struber’s decision to deploy him in a role that demands energy and tactical discipline.
Speaking ahead of the new campaign, McCrorie detailed the work that went into refining his output in the final third.
“As a wing-back, in the modern day, you’ve got to be able to get back post and you’ve got to be able to defend your back post. For me, it’s about the timing. I did a lot of analysis and video stuff looking back at my game… It’s just practice in training and that calmness in the final third.”
That mindset was evident on opening weekend, with McCrorie making key contributions in both halves of the pitch. Struber will be eager to keep such a player at his disposal as he looks to mount another promotion push.
Writer’s View
Losing McCrorie now would be a significant blow for Bristol City’s ambitions. His versatility, leadership, and ability to influence games from wing-back make him more than just a defensive option. Interest from Udinese is flattering and underlines his quality, but the timing is awkward for the Robins, who have built much of their tactical balance around his role.
If City are to take the next step under Struber, keeping key players like McCrorie could prove as important as any new signing.
