Derby County Raid Austrian Club For Ninth Summer Signing

Derby County have sealed a season-long loan deal for England youth international Bobby Clark, adding further quality and versatility to their midfield ranks ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Clark joins from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg, where he made 25 appearances across all competitions last season, including six in the UEFA Champions League.

His return to English football marks a significant coup for the Rams, who are assembling a side capable of making an instant impression at Championship level following promotion.

Clark Loan Confirmed Ahead of Championship Return

John Eustace’s side faced Salzburg during their pre-season tour last month, with Clark playing against the Rams in a 2-1 friendly defeat. Talks reportedly began shortly after, with the move finalised just days before Derby’s season opener away at Stoke City.

The 20-year-old first came to prominence at Newcastle United before being snapped up by Liverpool in 2021. He made his Premier League debut under Jürgen Klopp in August 2022 and later featured in the 2024 Carabao Cup final, helping the Reds defeat Chelsea in extra time. His first senior goal came just weeks later in the UEFA Europa League against Sparta Prague.

At Salzburg, Clark worked under Klopp’s long-time assistant Pepijn Lijnders before the Dutch coach’s departure in December 2024. Despite the managerial change, Clark remained a key figure, gaining experience at the highest level in both domestic and European competition.

Speaking to RamsTV after the deal was confirmed, Clark revealed his motivation for joining Derby and reconnecting with English football.

“I think he [Eustace] knows that I’m at a point where I want to prove people wrong, and I’m hungry to play football again, especially being back in the UK. It’s a great league and I just want to kick on here.”

The midfielder becomes Derby’s ninth senior addition of the summer window, following a series of moves designed to give Eustace a competitive and balanced squad for their return to the second tier. His creativity and attacking intent from central areas could be a key asset as Derby prepare to face a tough Championship field.

Writer’s View

This is the kind of signing that shows Derby County are not simply making up the numbers in the Championship. Bobby Clark arrives with Premier League, European and international pedigree, but more importantly, a clear desire to prove himself.

He’s young, technically gifted and familiar with English football’s demands. For a newly promoted club with top-half ambitions, landing a player of this calibre on loan, with the experience of Salzburg and Liverpool behind him, is a bold and encouraging statement. If Eustace can unlock his potential, Derby might just have found a gem.
