Former Luton Town midfielder Andros Townsend has made a surprise move to Thai top-flight side Kanchanaburi Power.
The 34-year-old’s switch to Asia marks the 16th club of a career that has taken him from Premier League stardom to a fresh chapter in Southeast Asia.
Townsend Starts New Chapter in Thailand
Kanchanaburi Power, only founded in 2017 and newly promoted to Thailand’s top division, have completed a shock deal for Townsend, who was most recently with Antalyaspor in Turkey. The former England international has signed on a free transfer and will wear the number 25 shirt.
Townsend spent the 2023–24 season with Luton Town, joining the Hatters in October 2023 after a brief trial period. He initially signed a short-term deal but was rewarded with a longer contract after impressing in the Premier League. His standout moment came on 23 December when he netted the winning goal in a 1–0 victory over his former side Newcastle United.
Despite that success, Townsend left English football in September 2024 to join Antalyaspor. That transfer began in chaos, with registration issues and confusion over the validity of his contract due to a transfer ban. He eventually featured 23 times for the Turkish club before leaving this summer.
Now, Townsend heads to Thailand, where he joins a club with big ambitions and a growing reputation. Kanchanaburi Power have made waves with their rise through the Thai football system, and this high-profile capture is further evidence of their intent to establish themselves in the top tier.

Premier League Veteran’s Global Journey Continues
Townsend began his senior career with Tottenham Hotspur, but it was his succession of loan spells across the EFL—including Yeovil Town, Ipswich Town, and Birmingham City—that shaped his early years. He went on to represent Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton before signing for Luton Town in 2023.
The winger, who now wears ‘Townsend Sr.’ on the back of his shirt in honour of his son, has said he hopes the gesture will one day be matched by his son taking the name ‘Townsend Jr.’ into the professional game.
Kanchanaburi Power will hope Townsend’s experience and professionalism can provide the cutting edge required to survive and thrive in Thailand’s top division.

From Premier League and England appearances to a short but memorable stint at Luton Town, he’s consistently shown a willingness to embrace new challenges. His move to Thailand is unexpected, but it could prove an inspired decision both on and off the pitch.
