Pundit Issues Sheffield Wednesday Warning

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has issued a stark warning to Sheffield Wednesday after yet another first team star opted to leave the club.

It’s been a turbulent time for the Owls in recent months. Amid a series of failed takeovers, the club have been slapped with a three-window transfer embargo due to their ongoing wages crisis, which saw a number of staff and players fail to receive their salary.

This has led to the departure of key players, with Josh Windass, Michael Smith and Akin Famewo exercising their right to give notice of their departures. The first two have already joined Wrexham and Preston North End respectively, whilst the latter looks to be closing in on a move to Hull City.

Meanwhile, Wednesday find themselves in a situation which could lead to a number of untried and untested players featuring in their season opener against Leicester City in just over two weeks time.

Hendrie Warns Sheffield Wednesday

Following the news that defender Famewo looks set to move to the MKM Stadium, ex-Aston Villa midfielder Hendrie stated his belief that the club are in ‘massive danger’. Speaking to Football League Worldhe said:

“Losing Akin Famewo to Hull would be a massive blow, there’s no doubt.

“I think you weigh up this situation at Wednesday at the moment and the likes of Windass, Famewo, the list goes on of where they’re at and what they’re not doing.

“It just spells out massive danger, it really does.

“It’s now filtering through to the squad of players that are saying they didn’t want Danny Rohl there, didn’t want him back.

“I think all these problems are starting to come from the top down to the bottom now, and this is a problem, it really is.

“When you’re losing players, key players, and they’re getting linked away, there’s no doubt that they’re going to be thinking better things, particularly when the club is in such a shamble state at the moment, it needs to be resolved.

“It needs to be resolved quickly, so the players can buy into what they’re going to do, and what they’re going to be at.

“And this is why players are turning their head, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this happens, but it’d be a massive blow again for Sheffield Wednesday, which we keep talking about.”

Writer’s View

There’s a real fear amongst Sheffield Wednesday that the upcoming season will be an absolute disaster. They seem to be losing key players left, right and centre, whilst there is also the ongoing debacle surrounding the future of manager Danny Rohl. Although the German has performed wonders at Hillsborough during his spell at the club so far, even he will struggle to keep the Owls in the division under the current circumstances. Of course, this all points to one man and the sooner he is gone, the better.
