Portsmouth look to be edging ever closer to signing MTK Budapest’s Mark Kosznovszky as the Hungarian club confirmed the player would leave this summer.
The 23-year-old had a starring role in MTK’s league season, playing in 25 of their 33 league games as they finished fifth out of 12 teams, narrowly short of qualifying for European football this upcoming season. He arrived at the club in 2020 after joining on a free transfer from Parma in Italy.
Pompey Transfer Revealed
It seems that Portsmouth are within touching distance of completing a move for the versatile midfielder, with MTK chief Balazs Polyak stating that Pompey had interest in the player on Wednesday, and reports from within Hungary, which have since been followed up by The Portsmouth News, have stated the Budapest side have accepted a £1.2 million bid for his services from The Blues.
It is not the first time Kosznovszky’s name has been linked with a move to Fratton Park, with reports stretching as far back as June for John Mousinho’s side pursuing the 23-year-old. However, the race has hotted up within recent weeks, with a report from last week through Pete O’Rourke in Football Insider stating Sheffield United had made a move, whilst an earlier report from the same outlet confirming a £500,000 Pompey bid suggested Swansea City were also interested.
It would be a second midfield signing of the window for Portsmouth, with the Hampshire club also picking up John Swift as a free agent following his release from West Bromwich Albion.

It seems that Mark Kosznovszky is set to be a Portsmouth player within the coming days as a £1.2 million bid has been accepted. With a pedigree at the youth international level with Hungary, the midfielder is capable of competing against some very talented players and now that will be put to the test in the Championship. Versatility will be a great benefit, with him playing both attacking, defensive and central midfield roles, meaning no matter the formation he could have something to contribute.
This move may also spell the end of any future deals for a new midfielder, such as Alex Robertson. The former loanee has been linked with Pompey as Cardiff City were relegated into League One, but the noise surrounding that potential move has gone cold for nearly a month now.
