Birmingham City are plotting an ambitious move for former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy, according to Football Insider.
The 38-year-old joined the Foxes in 2012 from Fleetwood Town for a fee of just £1 million. This is arguably one of the best pieces of business in football history, with the striker going on to score 200 goals in 500 appearances whilst guiding his team to one of the greatest underdog stories of all time by winning the Premier League in 2016.
Vardy also played a key role in two Championship titles, their first ever FA Cup triumph, the Community Shield and a run to the Champions League quarter finals. He also picked up various individual accolades, including the Premier League Golden Boot and the division’s Player of the Season.
Despite his ailing years, the attacker has made it clear he has no intention of retiring and is looking for one last swansong to his fairytale career.
Birmingham ‘Register Interest’ In Vardy
Various reports over the past couple of months state that Vardy still believes he is capable of playing in the Premier League and will consider moves from teams at the lower end of the table where he will be a regular starter, or a top end team where he can make an impact from the substitutes bench.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and Manchester United have all been previously credited with interest, whilst Scottish giants Rangers and La Liga outfit Valencia are also said to be keen. It is claimed that Birmingham have now arrived at the table and believe they can compete with any of the other teams keen on his signature due to their ambitious project.

Journalist Wayne Veysy states that the Blues are hoping to convince the veteran to move to St Andrew’s by making him a ‘key part of their ambitious plans’, which include launching a genuine assault on promotion in their first season back in the Championship.
Writer’s View
Birmingham may well have interest in bringing Jamie Vardy to the club this summer but it is a move that has very little chance of materialising. There’s no denying that the Blues have a very realistic chance of breaking into the Premier League in the next couple of years, but the former England international maybe has one or two seasons left at the top level and it is thought that he is not prepared to drop into the Championship at this point. Doing so would see him come up against ex-club Leicester City, which is also something he would probably be unwilling to do.
