£4.3 Million – Price Emerges In Blackburn Rovers Player Hunt

Blackburn Rovers will have to pay around £4.3 million if they want to land top defensive target Steve Kapuadi from Legia Warsaw this summer.

The 27-year-old has emerged as a key focus for Rovers as they look to strengthen the left side of their defence, but negotiations with the Polish giants are likely to test the club’s budget.

Legia Confirm Asking Price As Rovers Weigh Up Move

Kapuadi has just one year left on his current deal in Warsaw, yet Legia are holding firm over their valuation. Sporting Director Michał Żewłakow revealed the club would only consider a sale if an offer of around €5 million is received, equating to roughly £4.3 million.

“Steve Kapuadi has a year left on his contract,” Żewłakow explained. “Let’s assume an offer he can’t refuse arrives in a month. Whether I want to extend his contract, and whether the coach agrees, the player might conclude that he’s done what he was supposed to do at Legia.”

Kapuadi remains a regular starter in Poland, having played the full 90 minutes in both the UEFA Conference League qualifier and the Polish Cup final earlier this month. His form and attitude have been praised despite ongoing speculation about his future.

For Blackburn, the need for a left-footed centre-back is well known, and Kapuadi’s blend of physicality, composure, and experience at European level fits the profile the club are seeking. But with Legia in no rush to sell, any deal will require decisive financial commitment.

Player Open to Next Step, But Won’t Force Exit

Speaking earlier this summer, Kapuadi made clear he is open to a new challenge if the right opportunity presents itself, though he remains respectful of his current club.

“Anything is possible in football. I’ve been at Legia for two seasons now and it’s been a very valuable time. I’ve gained experience at the European level and achieved something that stays with a player forever,” he said.

The Congolese defender stopped short of commenting on the specific links to England, instead insisting any developments will be handled professionally and directly by the club and his representatives. “There are things that stay between a player and his entourage,” he added.

Writer’s View

Blackburn Rovers are clearly ambitious in their pursuit of Steve Kapuadi, but the price tag may give them pause. While £4.3 million is steep for a player entering the final year of his contract, Kapuadi’s quality and European pedigree do justify a premium.

The key question is whether Rovers are prepared to stretch their budget to land a player who could transform their back line. With competition likely and Legia standing firm, a swift decision may be needed if this deal is to move forward.
