Stevenage Striker Injury Blow Confirmed

Stevenage have been dealt an early pre-season blow with striker Tyreece Simpson facing a long spell on the sidelines.

The 23-year-old has confirmed he has ruptured his Achilles tendon and also sustained a calf tear during training.

Injury Blow for Simpson Ahead of League One Campaign

Simpson joined Stevenage in July 2024 from Huddersfield Town and featured 19 times in League One last season. While he failed to score during the campaign, the forward had been expected to push on this summer and cement a place in Alex Revell’s squad ahead of 2025/26. That plan has now been derailed.

The powerful striker revealed the extent of the injury on social media, writing that he had spent the off-season working hard to return to pre-season in peak condition. Unfortunately, a serious injury struck just as preparations were beginning.

“We all know injury is part and parcel of the journey, and I’m now sat face to face with a hurtful one – I’ve ruptured my Achilles tendon, alongside a small calf tear,” Simpson posted. “I’ll be back stronger than ever, trust me. It’s time to go even harder and embrace the process.”

The setback means Simpson will miss a significant portion of the new season, with Achilles injuries often requiring six to nine months of recovery. It comes just weeks after the forward made his senior international debut for St Kitts and Nevis, scoring in a 3-2 defeat to Grenada during June’s World Cup qualifiers.

Simpson also spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Colchester United, where he found the net twice in 20 appearances. Despite a mixed spell, the experience was viewed as a stepping stone towards a stronger return to Stevenage, where he remained under contract.

Now, Revell may be forced into the market for a short-term replacement, with Simpson’s absence leaving a gap in the attacking department. The Stevenage manager has not yet commented on the injury, but with the season approaching fast, recruitment plans may need adjusting.

Writer’s View

This is a frustrating blow for both player and club. Simpson was entering a crucial stage of his career, having shown glimpses of promise and earned international recognition. For Stevenage, his physical presence and versatility would have been assets in a competitive League One campaign. Instead, they’re left without a player who looked ready to make an impact.

Simpson’s determination shines through in his words, and at 23, he still has time to bounce back—but the road will be long. In the meantime, Revell may need to act quickly to ensure his squad isn’t left light up front.
