Tyrhys Dolan has turned down a return to Blackburn Rovers and will move on to a new club this summer.
The 23-year-old attacker is now officially a free agent and has informed the club he will not be re-signing at Ewood Park.
Rovers Miss Out as Dolan Seeks New Chapter
Dolan’s departure has been expected for some time, but Blackburn Rovers fans retained faint hope he might still pen fresh terms after two weeks without a new destination being announced. However, manager Valérien Ismaël has now confirmed that any such possibility has been closed off following direct communication from the player’s representatives.
“No, he’s made it clear,” said Ismaël. “At least his agent made it clear that he’s going somewhere else. But at the moment, I don’t think that he’s going anywhere (doesn’t have a club yet).”
The versatile forward, who joined Blackburn from Preston North End in 2020, made over 140 appearances for the club in all competitions and became a popular figure among supporters due to his energy, dribbling ability, and off-field personality. Despite Rovers’ desire to keep him, they were unable to meet the contract expectations set out by Dolan and his camp.
It’s understood that the player has multiple options on the table, including from clubs overseas. If he makes a move outside of England, Blackburn would receive only limited compensation due to FIFA regulations on training fees. However, should he sign for another English club, any transfer would require a settlement between the two parties or a tribunal decision.
The departure of Dolan continues a summer of transition for Ismaël, who is rebuilding the squad following a mixed 2024/25 campaign. Rovers narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last term and are determined to push forward under new leadership. The club has already seen interest in other key players and faces further negotiations in what promises to be a pivotal window.

Writer’s View
While fans may be disappointed to see Tyrhys Dolan move on, this decision isn’t surprising. Once it became clear Blackburn couldn’t meet his contract demands, the writing was on the wall. Dolan has likely had his eye on a fresh challenge for some time, and interest from other Championship sides or a move abroad suggests his reputation remains strong.
Rovers must now focus on reinvesting smartly and bringing in a player who can replicate Dolan’s creativity and versatility. Letting him go for free may sting, but clinging on out of sentiment wouldn’t have served the club’s long-term rebuild under Ismaël.
