Sheffield Wednesday Edge Closer To Takeover

Sheffield Wednesday have received a major boost following reports that a bid has been accepted from an unknown party ahead of a potential takeover.

It’s been a turbulent time for Owls supporters. They’ve had to watch from the sidelines as the club they love has slowly started to sink into the doldrums. Unpaid wages amongst a host of players and staff has led to a transfer embargo being placed above their heads, whilst a host of first team players are said to be on the fringes of departing Hillsborough.

Of course, this all stems from owner Dejphon Chansiri. To say his management of the club has been poor would be an understatement, but his long-awaited exit seems to have accelerated this week following reports that he had hired a professional team with a history of selling clubs to speak to potential buyers. This was also said to include the possibility of signing non disclosure agreements.

Chansiri End In Sight?

It looks as though Chansiri’s tenure is now reaching its final stages, with various reports stating that at least one bid has been accepted to purchase the club. The news was first revealed by BBC Sheffield journalist Rob Staton, who said:

“Per sources, understand an agreement has been reached with at least one prospective buyer for Sheffield Wednesday. Believe documents were out for signing yesterday and at least one buyer has signed theirs. This doesn’t mean a deal is done but the process is moving.”

This has then been confirmed by Sheffield Starwho have confirmed that a bid has been accepted. They had previously revealed that there are several interested parties from the UK, USA and Monaco.

The bid could include an ‘advance’, meaning wages owed to players who have put in their notice could be settled.

Writer’s View

Although there is still a way to go until any takeover will be completed, this is the first positive step and one that will be welcomed by supporters. Sheffield Wednesday find themselves in the very real possibility of being able to name a senior squad for their season opener next month but things can now hopefully start moving in the right direction. This positive update follows yesterdays news that manager Danny Rohl has seemingly performed a huge U-turn on his future and could remain in charge for the new season.
