Sheffield Wednesday‘s managerial situation has taken a surprise twist with Danny Rohl now set to remain at the club, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.
It’s been a summer of turmoil so far for the Owls. A series of unpaid wages has left the club playing with fire, with a number of key stars said to have given notice of their intention to leave Hillsborough.
This follows the ongoing saga with owner Dejphon Chansiri clinging on to the club. However, a proposed takeover looks to have accelerated in recent days with the businessman said have hired a professional team with a history of selling clubs to speak to potential buyers.
Rohl In Dramatic U-Turn
Rohl has been a revelation since arriving at the club in 2023. He performed a miraculous escape during his first season, avoiding relegation from a seemingly impossible situation.
Despite all the off-field barriers, the 36-year-old then delivered an excellent 12th-placed finish last season to cement the Yorkshire-based side’s place in the second tier.
This had led to speculation that the German would depart this summer and it was widely reported that he was actively seeking other positions. Rohl is yet to return to Hillsborough for pre-season and he was thought to be one of the frontrunners for the vacant role at Leicester City.
Following weeks of speculation, BBC Radio Sheffield understands Danny Rohl is returning to Sheffield Wednesday.

In one of the most dramatic u-turns in the EFL in recent years, it is now claimed that the former Bayern Munich coach is set to return to his role. The seemingly imminent exit of Chansiri is said to have played a key part of his decision.
Writer’s View
Sheffield Wednesday staff and supporters have had little to smile about in recent months, but this news will surely give them a much-needed boost. Danny Rohl has performed wonders at the club during his time at Hillsborough, despite the odds having been firmly stacked against him from the off. It’s a small glimmer of hope for the upcoming campaign. Hopefully a takeover can be concluded in the coming weeks to allow the Owls to move on from this mess. In the meantime, it is imperative that wages are paid in full, which would hopefully convince those expected to leave to continue life at the club.
