Peterborough United have shown interest in Southend United’s Oli Coker, according to a report.
Darren Ferguson’s side fell well short of last season’s expectations, but avoided the drop comfortably thanks to the contributions of Kwame Poku and Malik Mothersille. Both of those have left for Queens Park Rangers and Stockport County, respectively, leaving Posh in a position to find new up and coming talents to compliment their side.
Coker Move Touted
According to the Southend Echo’s Chris Phillips, Peterborough United are interested in a move for their midfielder Oli Coker, and are weighing up whether to make a move. The Shrimpers star played 40 times last season as they reached Wembley in the National League playoffs, but fell agonisingly short of promotion with Oldham Athletic besting the Essex side on the day.
Posh had previously enquired about Coker earlier in the summer, and the Peterborough Telegraph have stated that the Cambridgeshire club have had a bid rejected by Southend for Coker. He is under contract at Roots Hall until 2026, meaning now is the best time to cash in for the National League side, as they plan to transfer list him if he rejects a new contract extension.
The fifth tier has been a happy hunting ground for Peterborough, with Altrincham’s Chris Conn-Clarke starting to emerge as a leading forward option for Ferguson in the latter stages of last season.

Writers’ View
The name of the club that bid for Oli Coker has emerged and arguably it is one of the best destinations for up and coming players to go to. Peterborough United have earned wide acclaim for nurturing talents and with them now publicly interested in the midfielder, Southend now have a major decision on their hands. Kevin Maher has wanted to keep a hold of his star player with a rejected bid but with only one year left on his contract and a transfer listing firmly on the cards, it should be the time to sell the 22-year-old.
