Derby County £5.8 Million Striker Latest: Medical Set For Thursday

Derby County are on the verge of securing the signing of United States striker Patrick Agyemang, with the 23-year-old expected to undergo a medical within the next 24 hours.

A fee of £5.8 million has already been agreed with MLS side Charlotte FC, and the deal is now at the final formalities stage.

England Arrival Imminent For Agyemang

The forward was pictured in training with Charlotte earlier this week, as per league regulations, but the expectation is that he will travel to England imminently once the medical is complete. Derby’s medical team are already in the United States, ensuring the process moves quickly.

Agyemang recently featured prominently in the USMNT’s Gold Cup campaign, helping his country reach the final, where they were narrowly beaten by Mexico. His performances throughout the tournament, including a key goal against Haiti, enhanced his reputation and reinforced Derby’s interest in securing his services.

Head coach John Eustace, who took charge in February 2025, has been keen to reshape his attacking options ahead of the new Championship campaign. The Rams struggled in front of goal last season, registering just 48 goals, with top scorer Jerry Yates managing only ten. The signing of Agyemang, along with the earlier arrival of Carlton Morris from Luton Town and the return of Lars-Jørgen Salvesen from injury, marks a significant shift in Derby’s forward planning.

The move also underlines Derby’s ambition under Eustace, who is looking to build a side capable of pushing higher up the table. Agyemang, who has made no secret of his desire to play in Europe, will add pace, physicality and international experience to a forward line that lacked cutting edge last season.

Charlotte are understood to have negotiated a sell-on clause as part of the deal, which represents one of the Championship’s more notable incoming transfers this summer. Agyemang’s desire to move has played a key role in speeding up negotiations, and all parties are now confident of an announcement within days.

Writer’s View

This move has the potential to be a genuine game-changer for Derby County. Patrick Agyemang’s mix of international pedigree, physical attributes and hunger to prove himself in Europe fits perfectly with John Eustace’s rebuild at Pride Park. With Carlton Morris already signed and Salvesen set to return, the Rams are quietly assembling one of the Championship’s most intriguing forward lines.

For a side that lacked firepower last season, this kind of ambition in the market sends the right message—not just to fans, but to the rest of the division.
