Ethan Galbraith has branded the Leyton Orient supporters ‘incredible’ after opting to join Championship outfit Swansea City last week.
The 24-year-old joined the O’s in 2023 following his exit for Manchester United. He arrived with a big reputation after emerging through the Red Devils’ academy, where he made one senior appearance in the Europa League.
His career took off at Brisbane Road. In his first season at the League One club, he received multiple accolades, including the Leyton Orient Supporters Club Starman award and the Manager’s and Player’s Player of the Season.
The midfielder played a key role in Orient’s promotion bid last season, which saw him pick up six goals and eight assists in all competitions as Richie Wellens’ side were narrowly beaten in the play-off final. This saw the player linked with a summer transfer, with the race eventually won by Swansea in a deal thought to be worth £1.5 million.
Galbraith Reflects On His Time At Leyton Orient
A popular figure amongst supporters, the Northern Ireland international has broken his silence following his exit. Writing on official club media, he penned an emotional goodbye to the club which reignited his career:
“It’s hard to put into words what the last two years at Leyton Orient have meant to me. This club has been so much more than just a place to play football.
“To the gaffer and his staff, thank you for believing in me and helping me grow both on and off the pitch. To my teammates, thank you for the memories that I’ll take with me , it’s been an honour to share the pitch & dressing room with you all.
“To everyone behind the scenes — the people who make things run smoothly every single day — thank you for everything you do, often without the recognition you deserve.
“And to the fans… you’ve been incredible. From day one, you welcomed me with open arms. Your passion, your support. & your loyalty through the highs and the lows have meant more than I can say.
“Thank you for everything.”
Writer’s View
Almost from the moment that Ethan Galbraith stepped through the door at Leyton Orient, it was clear they had some player on their hands. His first season was memorable, but he was a driving force behind their march to Wembley Stadium in May. The former Salford City loanee emerged into one of the hottest talents in the lower divisions of the EFL and it was inevitable that he would earn a move to the Championship. With his ability, he should take the second tier by storm.
