A report has stated how much a Gareth Bale-led consortium has offered to take over Cardiff City from Vincent Tan.
The Wales and Real Madrid icon has been part of a group that is looking to take over The Bluebirds in the weeks following their relegation from the Championship. Despite initial reports that the 35-year-old former footballer was interested in Plymouth Argyle, Bale since denied those rumours and said Cardiff was his only target.
Fee Revealed
According to the Times, the group from the US have offered £40 million to Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan to take over the Welsh capital club, but this offer is set to be rejected. Tan, who has been a deeply divisive figure in South Wales since taking ownership in 2010, has stated in the past he will not sell the club to Bale’s group.
It is believed that with Tan investing over £200 million in the side across the fifteen years and three divisions the side have played in, he will bat away this latest offer in what is considered a “derisory offer” by the 73-year-old and his associates. A previous bid was tabled last month but did not reach any boardroom discussions, according to BBC Sport.
Bale has previously spoken to Sky Sports about his desire to buy his hometown club, stating:
“It’s always been Cardiff that we’re trying to get and being from Cardiff I’m very passionate, I see how passionate the Wales and Cardiff fans are.
“It’s an interesting time, an exciting time, and hopefully something can be done.”

Vincent Tan has held firm on his position to keep ownership so it is no surprise he has turned down this new offer. A £40 million fee may seem fair with the club now in the third tier but with how much money has been sunk into the club by the Malaysian, the price may become a major sticking point as he will want to recoup much of his losses. Bale being a local hero to Cardiff will surely have the fans on board with a new ownership prospect but the cards are in Tan’s hands to allow any change of power at Cardiff City to happen.
