Ipswich Town have found a potential replacement for Liam Delap as reports suggest they are interested in Patrick Agyemang.
The Tractor Boys lost their standout performer of last season upon their relegation back into the Championship, with Chelsea signing the England international for £30 million ahead of the Club World Cup. Kieran McKenna currently has two strikers available to him going into August, with Ali Al-Hamadi and the Championship’s top scorer two seasons ago in Sammie Szmodics.
Town Face Battle For Striker
With Town seeing Delap and Marcus Harness both leave the club in the past month, the club are identifying potential replacements and according to GiveMeSport, MLS standout Patrick Agyemang is a player of interest. The 24-year-old has scored 22 goals across 72 appearances for Charlotte FC since arriving at the club in February 2023.
The United States international is also spearheading his side’s charge in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, appearing in all three of their group games in the competition and scoring twice. He was the subject of interest from Luton Town in January but no move materialised from the Kenilworth Road club. However, Town are not alone in pursuing Agyemang, with interest from within the Championship in the form of Derby County, originally reported by Fabrizio Romano who suggested that John Eustace’s side were in the final stages of completing a deal.
The Rams are in the market for a new striker, and had loaned in Ipswich forward Marcus Harness last season. They have also lost Jerry Yates, who was signed on a season-long loan from Swansea City. Other interest for Agyemang comes from Belgian top-flight side Genk, but it is believed that Charlotte are under no pressure to sell their first-choice forward.
Writers’ View
Patrick Agyemang has emerged in recent months as a highly-capable striker so for Ipswich to move for him could be a very strong replacement to Liam Delap. The financial boost Town have gained from sales and parachute payments likely mean they can outbid opponents like Derby County, and with how strong Kieran McKenna’s team are looking heading into the start of the season, are a comfortable choice to gain promotion back into the top-flight. Alongside Sammie Szmodics and Ali Al-Hamadi, The Tractor Boys could have the strongest attack in the EFL next season by recruiting the US international and hijack Derby’s deal.
